embedded voicemail busy ports 1

We’re currently having a problem on a site where there voicemail ports on there embedded voicemail are getting stuck in a busy state. This is stopping the customer doing system backups as the 3300 will not do a backup, if it see that the voicemail ports are busy. The only way to clear this is to reboot the 3300, hard or soft reset or by stopping and starting the voicemail via the shell. This has been an issue since about release 7 they’re currently running release 8. If I state the voice ports they show busy, (not all normally a couple) then if I run a resource command for those ports that are busy, the result is that the voicemail ports are talking to each other. Has anybody experienced anything like this before

Is your hunt group set to terminal or circular? I believe it should be terminal.

And how many ports? 4, 16, 20, 30? Is this straight voicemail usage or are they using RAC as well?

The only times I've seen ports getting stuck is when there is a collision between someone requesting a port and voicemail itself using a port (for mwi for example). Setting the hunt group to terminal should solve this as each case starts from the opposite end of the list of ports. It can still happen of course if you have too much voicemail traffic for the number of ports. A 4 port CX for example.

It's obviously not a common thing, so look towards either your particular system configuration and/or your useage for ideas.
 
This is a 20 port voicemail with a couple of AA's, I will try to run some reports on the call logger to see how busy the voicemail port.

Have you used any unusual number schemes in the numbering of the ports? *'s or #'s are not recommended.

I have not noticed this issue but I have had sites where I couldn't backup without a reset and I will now be checking for this issue.

I thought this was being caused by call being transfered off switch to mobile, as this went via a premicell but voicemail port didn't have p

I'm giving you a star because I recently had this issue and was able to clear down the VM port that was locked up and then successfully get my backup.

I can't help with the issue, but knowing that a stuck VM port can cause backups to fail is useful info.

I'm going to escalte to mitel again tommorrow.

This fault has been going on for about 8 months now there must be more they can look at.

Ill update the thread with my findings

I saw a system lately where i could also not backup but no voicemail active
In this case the ftp did not work anymore
