EHD Enclosure Help

Hi,
I have a Freecom 500GB EHD (

and i have accidentally broken part of the chipset inside. I think the solution would be to buy a new enclosure but i am not sure?
If it is, are there any specific characteristics I need to look out for? i.e. 2.5"?3.5"?
Sorry if it doesn't make sense, I will try to clarify certain parts in replies.

just one more question: is the connection between the hard drive and the chipset uniform for all 3,5" SATA hard drives? so i could buy any?
