Does anyone know why the 5610 IP phone echoes your own voice? This only happens on incoming calls from mobiles. If we ring the mobile back its fine and if we make a call from a 5410 its fine. Its driving the customer mad. This IP phone is over a VPN from the IPOFFICE unit

might be a vpn error. what type of tunnel are you using?

CAn you check the ip phone on local lan and try replicate issue.

Dont think its VPN, when I call from a 5410 on one network to the 5610 on the other side of tunnel its fine

What kind of trunks ?

Is the ipo connected to earth ?

ACA - Implement IP Office
ACA - Voice Services Management

Analogue trunks. Should the IPO be earhed seperatly?

analogue lines vary in size unlike isdn which is always 64kb so a call to an ip phone might give issues. try adjusting the codec to auto and also change the echo settings in analogue trunk properties.

Earth is earth no matter where you plug in into, as long as it is earthed, especially analogue trunks

Ensure that your using G711 and not G729 since it's likely the echo is being caused indirectly by compression.

I have now narrowed this echo down to VM PRO. If call is routed to the IP phone at remote office (VPN)via VM autoattendent you can hear your own voice echoing on the IP phone. If auto attendent is swiched off the echo dissapears???

do you use Direct Media Path on the IP phones? Try adjusting it.

Set the vmpro to 100M Half Duplex rather than Auto.

Thanks, What is direct mdeia path?. Also how do I change to 100 from auto please

if you can imagine an ip phone dialling over a sip line. The sip line is an external proxy with a public ip address. A call is initiated through the ipoffice who acts as a go between/translator, but as both devices are IP, they speek the same language, so with direct media path enabled, the ipoffice sits back and says "hey, you 2 carry on talking, you don't need me here listening to this conversation, I can see that you are both French and have the neccessary tools to have a yarn". the ipoffice just sits there and keeps the signalling channel open, so for example if 1 party hangs up, the call is disconnected. The speech part is called RTP (Real Time Protocol) and the signalling is SIP. RTP uses direct media and therefore less resources on the ip office.

A call to the VMPRO will keep a path open to vmpro and 1 open to the IP phone and a data link to IPoffice (not 100% sure on the exact paths here) but if you select Direct Media Path enabled (VOIP settings for IP Extension) it will try and communicate directly with the IPOffice, not the vmpro.

To change to 100 Mb Auto, go to System, Contol Panel, Device Manger, select the Network IC, Properties, and near the bottom you will see Negotiation or something to that effect, change it here from Auto to 100M1.2

Thanks. Sorry to sound thick. Do you mean windows Device manager?

don't worry about it, sure Im the stupidiest guy on this forum at the best of times..:)

go to Control Panel, (Click "Switch to Classic View" if all you see is big icons - they're for silly people), select System, Hardware, Device Manager, select your Network Adaptor that you use for normal LAN stuff, double click, go to Advanced, on the scroll list you will see Link Speed & Duplex, select this, choose the drop down entry 100Mb 1/2 duplex option to the right and whayhay.. done.

If you get same issues, have a look at what else is on the vmpro machine, firewall, anti-virus, etc. Also what operation system is it?

It is vital that this is standalone and not some cheap ass customer who says "ah it's only for Fred who comes in on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and doesn't use it much", little does he know Fred is a raging porn freek and this is how he hides his identity, anyway, where was I.. try this and the direct media path, i get a few issues with DMP and vmpro, especially with SIP calls.
