Doorphones and Partner...oh my!

Okay we are replacing a lot of Panasonic KXT systems in large upscale homes with Partners. Our problem is that alot of these houses have had there door phones cut into the door trim and as we all know the Avaya door phone is so attractive and huge. So has anyone tried to use a Panasonic door box adapter on a Line port with the Panasonic doorphones? If so how did you have to set it up? I am trying to do that right now and I can barely hear any noise at the doorphone and nothing rings at the extension. Any ideas, thoughts?????

I would think it would work as long as you set it up at the proper extension. The limitation of the partner system is that it rings extensions once and once only.

The way we generally do it in motels is to set it up as a hotline. It only rings one extension, but it rings more than once (and a cordless Single-line phone hooked on the same extension will ring too.)

We generally go with the new Trans-Tels for motels anymore...

Try connecting the door phone to a partner ACS extention. (you can use any analog type door phone, and only connect the 4 and 5 pins, or middle pair on the ext port to the door phone.)
Set the auto line selection to intercom, remove line appearances from the ext. Assigm the ext as a door phone, assign other exts as alert exts., so they will recieve the ding dong alert. You did not mention an electric strike on the door lock to be activated so I didn't either.
I have done this a few times, it works. The door phone alert exts need to answer the call to speak. If you do not know how to do the programming check out avaya.com site, click documentation, the partner advanced communications system (ACS), select the release number of the ACS, click admin and system programming, click admin programming and use, click view or download PDF, then view PDF file. look for door phone section, it is well detailed. If you have trouble, ask back again.

Is it possible to make the alert extensions ring more than once?

I do not recall if the ding dong sound repeated, I never had a customer complaint on it, si I do not recall.

Thre are two types of Avaya door phones for the ACS.

1. Analog, that gets hooked up to an extension port only using the TIP and Ring. It will only chime once like a doorbell. It will not ring again until it resets and the button is pressed again. I have accomplished this also with an analog phone in a reception area that did not have a receptionist. Limit 2 per system.

2. Door phone controller style. It actually uses two pair Tip and Ring and Power. It can be hooked up to a line port or an extension port but the line port is better. When hooked up to a line port it will actually work as an incoming call and ring a variety of times according to the settings. It can be covered to a mailbox or to the Auto Attendant. Each controller can have 2 door phones and you can have as many controllers as you have lines (in theory). I've only put up to 2 controllers on a system with 4 door phones.
