Have anyone came across this yet. A user will upload a file to a page, then a couple of weeks later the link to the document will not work.
/documents/Prob%20&%20Stats%20Chap.%202%20Sec.%203%20Presentation.ppt
Yes I am aware they it has spaces and periods in the name, even if I take them out it will not work? Other documents work with the spaces, &, and periods in them. If I change the name that seems to be the only thing that fixes the problem.

Does the issue only happen on a PPT file extension? Does the problem occur accross platform and browsers? If you chnage the name of the file doest he issue ever arise again?

Yes the problem occurs across platforms and browsers.
So far the issues have only been with PPT.
When I changed the name that corrected the problem, but its only been 2 days since I've changed the name.

When the link stops working, do you get an error message or does the page just hang trying to access the PPT file?

I get a page not found. But the file is still on the server. And I can go directly to the server's folder, and open the file and it works. Its also happening with PDF's also.

Yeah thats' what I done, and I am hoping that works, Having a shorter name and removing the '&' and all of the spaces. Hopefully this works.

what i like doing is uploading the file to the directory where i store files then i add a record into a db (where i store my documents for quick reference)
then i rename the file just uploaded to the primary key for the documents. so thisIsTHeOldFIleName.xls and change it to 25.xls

The problem with that is the file name is no longer descriptive. The file name mortgateratesforMay2006.xls is better 25.xls

I do have a record in the DB, but I don't change the name of documents to the primary key.

the reason for doing that is to get away from descriptive names.......

you dont want to go through the direcorty structure to get a file you want the Application to get the file for you....

this way you dont get the human hands on it to mess it up...

you should have a descriptive title for the db entry along with a description of the file and any other info about the file you want to keep.....
