Disappearing Email?

Hello There,

I have another tricky email problem with a user account.

Twice, in the space of a month, a user has had emails disappear from the sent folder?

When i looked there where no emails found in the sent folder for October but all the normal ones for September and November etc were there ok.

I looked into the deleted folder and there was nothing there but when i looked in "recover deleted items" i found that they ahd all been placed in there, and they were deleted as a block at the same time.

Now the user user said that he did not delete these and does not know how they got there?

I could not explain either and now it has happened again i have no idea why this should occur?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Check the autoarchive options for the Sent Items folder to make sure it's not doing it.

Do you have a retension rule set on the Exchange server?

I've never used it, but I believe it's in the System Manager, mailbox manager or something like that.

Sorry, that's the only other thing I can think of, but that's a stretch since it's doing it to a month in the middle of three.

You say it happened again. What were the items deleted this time? Same month or another one?

Hello there,

It was the same month worth of emails as far as i can tell.

First time round i did not really look since i found them in the "recover deleted items" and thought "user error".

I really think he is deleting them since there are no rules and a 6 month archive policy. what else can it be?

Its just nice to see other people having a confused look with this problem to, since i have the same look here.

Make sure there are no message filter rules as well.

If there are no rules or archine funtions then you can bet someone deleted those emails.

Archive can't pull a month out the middle altough you can set a filter rule to move mail and they may have set that up in error.
