is there any way that a key on a 3903 can be disabled? i.e. made so that they key still appears, recives caller id, but can not go off hook?

thanks, nick

You can make it a non-ringing key, but you will still be able to go off-hook.

long story short, just instaaled a new call logger for 911 in the fire house which only works for analog. they wanted to keep 911 as a secondary line on their 3903 so they can still see who is calling, but i wanted to disable that key from being picked up to make them answer the analog wall phone, because the logger wont record if its picked up on the digital.

How about making the line(s) on the 3903 a PVR that is built from an analog TN with DN 3903.

Now you can let them use the digital phone, but it is being fed by analog TN(s) backed into trunk cards and programmed as PVRs

If you wanted to get the caller ID, you will need to upgrade to a 3904 or 2616 so you can place the 911 DN on a non-hardware add-on module. Set the CLS as TDD and they will see the caller ID but will not be able to answer it on pure digital. They will answer it on the PVR appearance.

Can you not get a CLIP device in the US?

In the UK you can buy a small device that displays CLIP and can ring also. The ring function can be disabled.

Thanks,
Colin

That is another thing, i was not sure if caller ID devices are compatible with the CS1000.

I think you have to have a special card to get CID on analog sets - along with the appropriate switch loads. Pretty expensive option if I recall back when we decided it wasn't worth it....

How is telco coming into this facility and how are the 911 calls hitting your PBX? Copper or PRI?

It isn't county 911, it is our own internal 911 on a National Guard Base.

In that case, go with GHTROUT's suggestion.

PBX --> Analog TN --> Loop through voice logger --> Trunk Card --> PRDN --> Digital set w/PVR key, CLS TDD, AOM=1, first AOM key with DN of the Analog TN

M2008 w/displays are dirt cheap - put those up where you need phones instead of analog phones.

If you need a few 2008's shoot me your address via PM I think I can scare up a few. I haven't forgotten how tough it is to get stuff through "normal" channels when the base never has budget for anything.....don't miss that a bit to ne honest!
