Hi all,

Working on an IP office 500v2, R 8.1. I have a customer with (right now) 3 different incoming lines. 2 of them are 800 numbers, 1 is local. Working off a PRI (well, SIP to PRI handoff through an Adtran, but PRI as far as the Avaya is concerned). They are wanting the phones to show which number is dialed to get to them per call, if that makes sense. If someone called 800#A to get to them, have it show somehow that is was 800#A instead of 800#B or the local number. Failing that (or maybe in addition to that), have a different ringtone to indicate that 800#A was the dialed number to get to their office.

To throw a possible monkey wrench into the mix, there are actually 2 businesses working off that particular unit. The original company is easy. Keep their phones up and working, make a couple huntgroups, call it a day. But the original company leased out half of their area to a second company and the phones were already in place. Original company has 1 incoming number. So anything that works globally has to be able to turn off for the original business (honestly I don't know if they realize they are sharing the same system. I keep them separate with incoming call routes and different extension groups and outgoing dial number short codes, but they aren't segregated by phone like they probably should be I guess).

Bonus question: The second company is a pain in butt. They want a lot of extra service and only pay for phone lines from us right now (as opposed to the original company who gets the phone lines and computer/network/phone system services). Anyhow, among other headaches, they want a global speed dial. In the past, I've always just made short codes ( #01 dials John, #02 dials Ann, etc ). I've also done that in their case since the original company doesn't care about that ability so doesn't even know they could use them as well. The new company likes to change them up once a month or so, though, which costs me a bunch of data entry time that I could do without. Is there a way they can do that themselves outside of manager from the phones? Or any better options?

Put the name of the 800 line in the tag for the incoming call route...it'll display on the phones.
You can change ringtones, but it will require certain model phones, not sure what you have. 14xx and 95xx. I think it may also require a certain version, can't remember when it became available.

I used to be an ACE. Now I'm just an Arse.

Oh, ok. I had not noticed that field before. So it looks like, while the phone is ringing, depending on the incoming dialed number, it will display whatever I put in the Tag field. Once it is picked up, it will display as normal, so they have to catch that before picking up. If I understand that correctly, I can work with it. Easy fix, thanks!

Where would I make changes to the ringtone per dialed number. They are all working on 96xx on that side of the company. I would imagine that anything I can do on a 95xx I can recreate on a 96xx the same way. Hopefully it would also be something I could implement without messing with the original company set up who just wants the calls to come in.

Any thoughts on getting global speed dials that can be programmed from the phones?

Star for the easy fix and proving that no matter how many help files we read, we (meaning I) always miss something stupid easy :)

Ringtones can only be altered for the digital sets (16xx & 95xx) not for any other phone type.
In Manager try to use the learn button (F1) it will reveil a world of info (well it used to but Avaya has limited it on recent versions).

Don't give them services they aren't paying for, it's that easy, I'm sure they charge their customers :)

Thanks for the info intrigrant. I thought 95xxs and 96xxs would be able to do all the same stuff. I will take ringtones per incoming call line off the table for them. Also, I use the help files as much as I can in manager. F1 is my best friend. I just missed the tagging. I try not to bother you guys with stuff until I have tried looking through the helps and all the back posts on this site and anything google can dredge up for me. Tag was never a term I tried to search, though.

Totally agree amriddle. Unfortunately, I'm not the boss. I think we're making a good amount from them on the phone lines and numbers (we resell), so my boss is probably less apt for me to drop them on service. It is something I am working on, though. In the meantime, I am trying to figure out how to let them help themselves a much as possible so I have less time invested.

Guess I'm just down to the bonus question of how to create a global speed dial they can manage themselves outside of manager... Is that possible? Again, that wouldn't need to be split by company on the box, it can be global for both since the original company doesn't use/need them. But they would need to be able to input the numbers from their phones and be able to dial them from any phone in the office.

Thanks again!

Might be possible to manage external directory in Web Manager and Web Self Ad,om, but haven't dived into that. The thing about that external directory is when you update it in Manager for Windows and save, it's not a merge. It requires a reboot. I think in 10.0 that won't be necessary anymore.
