Hello! First I'd like to apologize very much for asking so many questions. This is my first Meridian unfortunately (which is why I'm setting it up in a home environment rather than setting it up for a business my first time and risking accidentally messing up their phone system).

Anyway, my Meridian KSU will allow 6 lines and 16 extension phones. This is what my line setup will be (all VoIP lines, but in the Meridian's eye, it doesn't know that):

Line 1: Unlimited calling plan to US/Canada. Fair international rates so international calls should be routed over this line when available.
Line 2: Prepaid calling plan
Line 3: Prepaid calling plan
Line 4: Prepaid calling plan
Line 5: Prepaid calling plan
Line 6: Prepaid calling plan

What I want the Meridian KSU to do is route over line 1 whenever it is possible. For example:

No lines are currently in use.

Now, Joe picks up his phone and proceeds to dial 9 (AC1) for an outside line. Joe receives dialtone from line 1 and dials his call normally.

While Joe is on the phone, Mary picks up her phone and dials 9 (AC1) to reach an outside line. Line 1 is currently in use, so her call is routed over Line 2.

5 minutes after Mary is on her conversation, Joe is off the phone. Now, Jane picks up her phone to make a call, and dials 9 (AC1) and receives dialtone from line 1. She makes her call.

In other words: If Line 1 is available, it should be used. Is there a "priority line" feature?

I also might be getting an unlimited calling plan on Line 2. Is there a way to add that as a second priority line if I do that?

TIA,

ML

The picture of the KSU shows something that says Meridian and when I bought it it said it was a Meridian in writing. Time will tell :) When I get it I'll let you know. It also says Northern Telecom on it.

Hmm. It looks like it might actually turn out to be a Norstar. If it's a Norstar that will be GREAT especially since I got a great price on it.

NT5B01 is the model number that I was told it is. I'm looking for pictures and I'm finding "Norstar NT5B01" and they say Meridian.

It is an example of Nortel's fear of names. There is a constant re-naming mission - really. Even the company cant go more than a few years without changing the "official name"

Great equipment, marketing l

The "big" series is what this forum babbles about.

The Norstar Series is a smaller system.

Wow! That's cool! I got an under-$100 system that was supposed to be a Meridian that turned out to be an even better Norstar that's worth probably a few hundred!

Thank you all for your help!

To top that off, my Meridian M9417 here says Northern Telecom on it, and I've come across many Millennium payphones that say Northern Telecom.

Even the KSU says Northern Telecom.
