DID programming procedure for 3300 MXe 1

Hello,

I am looking for a step-by-step procedure to assign a new DID to my 3300 Mxe system. Software version is 7.1.4.9_1

Here is what I have:

4 analog DID trunks (analog trunk assignment form shows: Type "DID/Loop TIE trunk")
The new DID has the last four digits of 2075 being sent by the LEC

I want to assign this to extension 470

Can someone please detail how this is to be done?

The simplest method is to create a System Speedcall on the 3300 that will translate the digits.

Speed Call Number Actual Number Overrides Toll Control Type
2075 470 No S/C

kwbMitel, thank you this works exactly as you indicated.

I would want to add that one should pay special attention to how the Trunk Service Number is configured to insert or absorb digits. This played heavily into my situation:

The Trunk Service Number was set to absob 1 and insert a 7. The LEC was sending me the last 3 digits of the DID number. Therefore, the 3300 strips off the first digit received and adds a 7 to the remaining 2 digits. I made a System Speedcall of 775 and sent it to 470 and it worked flawlessly. The Call Rerouting for 470 even sent the call to voicemail as it should.

I wish that this was documented somewhere in the 3300 manuals because without tek-tips I never would have solved it. I could not even get this straight of an answer from Mitel tech support when I called.

It would be impossible to document all the ways this task might have been accomplished. It is really up to the technician to apply their knowledge of the system. Mitel's helpfiles are exceptionally good if you already have some understanding of the system.

The trick of using speedcalls to translate digits only came to me about 3 years ago. I've been working with 2K's for over 10 years and 3300's for 7. I'm happy to share.

Translation of DID's is one of my few pet-peeves with this platform. Most PBX's have DID translation tables specifically designed for this purpose (inluding the Mitel SX-200). I would have far less hair than I already don't if the speedcall solution had not occured to me.

Would you be able to direct me to the help files in particular that indicate how to point a DID at a particular extension please? I could not find it in the online help or the manuals.

That is easy

Let's say you have 3 digits left from the trunk
We take 123
When you make a group or an extension with 123 then it is already working
If you do not have a user or group with number 123 then you need to use the speedcall

The system first looks for a match before it looks in the speedcalls

The manual is not task specific.

The manual is command oriented.

You will not find any instructions that tell you how to do this in the manual. There are several valid methods to point a DID at an extension and all have dependances and pre-requisites. The challenge is to find the best fit for the system at hand.

My method starts in the design phase. I request that inbound calls deliver at least 7 digits. I then accept all 7 digits and create speedcalls for each one. Usually the design does not require any further translation and the speedcall effectively strips the necessary digits and the extension matches the remaining 3 or 4 digits. When translation is required however, it is readily available.

The design of your system governs the method used. Your extensions do not match the DID and digit modification is taking place. This severely limits your options. The speed call method still works for you but it requires a deeper understanding of the design.
