DID number assigned to specific button at reception 9

What is the best way to set up a DID number that is virtual and will not have a handset but will ring at the reception desk and allow the reception to answer with that persons answer phrase and also to place calls sending out that buttons DID number

I set up a user and then assigned assigned a Bridged button at the reception but it will not allow me to place a call. It just beeps once when I press the button.

If I set up Bridged for a user that has a handset it does work.
 
If the system is not too old you can use the MADN feature, it's a phantom user you can assign on a single key button
 
I would suggest doing this by creating a Hunt Group and have the ICR route to that Hunt Group. When it rings the Hunt Group will display on the top of the phone and it can be handled appropriately without consuming buttons.

Advantages to doing it this way is you can have multiple Hunt Groups in use and not use up buttons. You can also easily add or remove extensions from that hunt group.

To set specific outgoing call DIDs I would suggest using a short code. You could program *80xxxxxxxxxx and have it dial outbound with Ns1234567890 with the numbers after s being your preferred DID. Again, this could be used by anyone on the phone system that needs to make a call.

gkittelson, I tried the GROUP set you you suggest but when the call comes in it rings and flashes on bot the Appearance button and the GROUP button.

Is there a way to just have it ring and flash on the button with the answering phrase. in this instance the answering phrase is "Law Office" instead of their usual phrase.

I tried to set up a virtual User and then use the Coverage and Bridged then point the DID at that User but when I call I get a busy probably because there is no handset attached to that user.

Is there a way to just have a single button light and ring and the Label on that button will be "Law Office"?

MADN came out in 10.1 so you won't be able to use that as you upgrade but this feature would work.

On 9.1 your options are a bit more limited. A group will flash on both the appearance and group button in any case unless the user is logged out in which case only the group button will flash.

For outbound calling I would suggest going with the short code option as mentioned above. The user can dial a prefix before the number to send calls out with the required DID as the caller ID.

For inbound calls have you tried using the tag field on the DIDs in your incoming call route? You can put a short phrase here which will appear on the phones like this example:

You can also see I'm using MADN on this phone with the 477-4001 appearance to receive and place calls as that extension but you'd need to upgrade for that functionality.

There is no need for a group button. You can add it but it isn't utilized. You would put the user in the hunt group, and when the hunt group is called the phone will ring and the Hunt Group name will be displayed on the top as the phone rings. This is how we setup all of our clients. Another advantage to this is if you have overflow for a hunt group the other phones will also see the hunt group that is calling.

Several people answer for reception and they are not paying attention to the button ringing so I tried this work around.

I had a spare analog PHONE port available so I assigned the virtual user ext number to that port. I then set up Bridged Appearance on the reception desk and pointed the DID number to that user. When called only the button for that user rings. If the reception needs to place a call for the virtual user the correct DID numbers is sent. If no answer then voice mail answers and send the message via email.
