Dialling from Outlook 1

Okay hopefully a simple one to resolve, Ive setup TAPI to enable dialling from outlook and it works fine, except I cannot get it to automatically insert a 9 before the number of the contact - and for the customer in question this is a must as they insist on a 9 being used.

I have tried all the options within dialling properties and even when I get it to say

Phone number will be dialled as 9 XXXXX XXXXXX - it still doesnt dial the 9 first.

why dont you put a short code in the users shortcode to prefix it with 9?

Also, the IPO doesnt need a 9 to dial out. (only when forced via ARS or system SC. Only people who cant let go of their old switch use a 9!!!

Thanks for the response but I have now managed to get it working. You have to set the number up in outlook as +44 then the actual number and put a 9 in the dialling properties for local and international dialling access.

This then puts the 9 infront of all dialled numbers when dialled from outlook.

Speaking of TAPI, anyone have any ideas to make phone numbers on websites basically a hyperlink to be able to click on it and call the number?

Cell phones seem to have the feature, but I think it'd be a great feature to have.

I have this working on Windows 7 Pro with Office 2007. The 9 to access an outside line is defined under 'Phone and Modem' on the PC, not your TAPI settings. settings and then 'My Location'. Select Edit for 'My Location' and you can configure rules for dialing; local, long distance, and any carrier codes for international.

How did you get the TAPI for the Avaya connected? I installed TAPI and then when i go to chhange it in outlook contacts dialing properties it is not there. then i go to modems and advanced i see the IPO with my extn #, but no way toadd it into outlook?

Bare with me, as I've only set this up once and with one minor change it worked. Below is what I remember doing.

I installed the latest TAPI software off the IP Office User CD (version 4.2.29), the installation required a reboot. Once I rebooted the installation continued and found the IP Office. It asked me to pick a user and insert the password. Once I did that the installtion completed.

From there I went to Outlook 2007 and tried to dial a contact. The "New Call" window popped up. I selected "Dialing Options". In the "Dialing Options" window, at the bottom I selected "IP Office Phone: Extn" from the "Connect using line" drop down box. (This was my PC modem by default).

Once I did this, I was able to connect to the IPO but my system was not dialing 9 to gain an outside line and it was not dialing my local area code. I went to "Phone and Modem" setting in Control Panel. From there I edited "My Location" settings. I changed local calling to add a dialing prefix for local of "9XXX" (XXX = my area code, my region requires the area code and Windows was stripping it out when it was making local calls even though it was in the contacts phone number in Outlook) For long distance I added "91".

Once I did this I was able to make calls thru Outlook.

I'm not sure if this helps, like I said I didn't have to do much to get it to work. Let me know if I can be any further assistance.

Sometime Outlook doesn't "see" the Avaya TAPI driver. I have not found a reliable way of fixing this.

I've also had ones that did see it, but then inexplicably it would disappear.

I just don't bother with it any more as I think it's a computer/Outlook issue.
