Hey everyone

IP office 5.0.8 just set option 9 on my auto attendant to dial by name.

however when i call in and press 9 nothing happens. the line stays open but all i hear is silence. no aa prompt to dial last name and if i do try to dial my last name it doesnt do anything.

What am i missing.
DBN is enabled in system (as i can't un-enable it!!)
i have a my full name in my user profile and i also have my full name and my extension in the directory.

thanks for the help

Have the users recorded their name against the mailboxes? That is a requirement of dial by name :)

and upgrade the system because 5.0.8 is old and crappy for embedded.

Sorry everyone for some reason i havent been able to post to this forum for a few days. kept getting an error messsage. anyway

i verified my name is recorded in the mailbox. i dont know if every user has recorded their name but more than a handful have.

even with that my symptoms havent changed.

dial 9 for DBN. then i hear silence. if i try to dial my last name i still hear silence and nothing happens. no prompts no disconnects nothing.

i will look into doing the upgrade but shouldnt it work without that?

Thanks

you should be able to get the prompt by dialing 9 since you have it set up that way. A problem with dial by name is the abundance of some smart phones. For example if you call into it with a blackberry, most people will try to use the letter keypad. No tones are sent from letters, and thus the IPO wont receive anything. This creates a real problem for Dial by name.

i am grabbing an outside line and dialing the main number which is answered by my ccr.

i just tried from my bberry and my droid. same issue with both.

walked next door and used another companies phone and same issue. total silence when hitting 9. what should i hear when dialing 9 for DBN? are there pre-recorded system prompts? or do i have to record them.

i guess i will upgrade the software and try it again but this just doesnt seem right.

thanks

Do a monitor trace with embedded options ticked, you may find it looking for a prompt that does not exist. If so upgrade both the system and embedded card :)

I have had this problem be sure to have them record their name with the *05 option.

to jimrit
the problem is not that the blackberry can't dial from the keypad it is that people don't know how to use their blackberry's
you need to push the alt key and then type on the keypad to create the appropriate touch tones.

as for your trace mcswensen sorry too much stuff in there and not enough brains left today.

And that means the embedded voicemail card is not upgraded yet.
And that is necessary to get dial by name working.
It needs new prompt which are not on the card yet.
Open manager and then go to embedded file management and select upgrade voicemail card.
This should do it all for you.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Indeed, that's exactly what I suspected, upgrade both the system and card and you will be all good to go :)

Thank you all for the help i am just a bit unclear on the upgrade process.

i looked in embed file manage but dont see any upgrade options. i will work to upgrade both system and embedded voicemail and report back. thank you so much

tada.wav!!!!

well that was it. thanks to everyone baldwincl your previous thread especially. shame on me for not finding that thread when searching although i can't seem to figure out this sites search functionality. it doesnt ever seem to return results.

I tried copying files over to the embedded card. and little by little it started to work. i figured it wasnt fully working because i was choosing upload file not upload voicemail file. so after clicking upload voicemail file it started to overwrite all the files on my embedded card.

once my heart started again and the transfer stopped everything appears to be working.

Thanks a bunch everyone. once again tek-tips saves the day.
