If you right click on a task bar button, e.g., Word or Excel, you could get 8 or 10 files appear on the jump list.

I can right click on a single item (or file) on the jump list and then delete it.

Is there a way to delete all of the items at once on a jump list without unpinning the task bar button?

...e.g., Word or Excel, you could get 8 or 10 files appear on the jump list.

Make that 50-100 or more files on the jump list (it only shows about 10 until you start deleting one by one so that it scrolls up). This is too cluttered for me.

Thank you BadBigBen. This is very helpful even though it is not exactly the way I want it to work but we can't always have our way.

from link provided by BadBigBen said:
...Clearing the recent documents history clears the Jump Lists MRU as well. Use these steps:

Right-click on the Taskbar (Superbar) and choose Properties

In the Start Menu tab, uncheck the following option:

Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar

Click Apply

Re-enable the above option and click OK.

This clears the recent documents history and the Jump Lists MRU. The Pinned items are not cleared...

Q1) What does this mean? It does not make sense if one just disabled it.

How to Clear File Search MRU History in Windows 7

The above link was within the link BadBigBen provided and looked like what would help but this
...You can remove an item from the Search MRU list by highlighting that item (using the mouse, or Up/Down keys) and then pressing the DELETE key.

Does not work.

Q2) What does th abbreviation MRU stand for?

Can you select one, do a Ctrl A (selects all) and press the delete key?

Jim

Right click brings up JL. Left click to select opens that file and JL disappears.

Right click brings up JL. Right click on a file and CTL-A nothing happens.

Using the File menu in Word 2010, File/ Options/ Advanced/ "Display" and "Show this number of Recent Documents", can you do anything with that?

Try the same path with Excel 2010 too.

>> Q2) What does th abbreviation MRU stand for?

MRU = Most Recently Used

>> Q1) What does this mean? It does not make sense if one just disabled it.

it does make sense, in that if the option is disabled, Win7 normally deletes ALL MRU's (aka Jump-List), and reenabling it should activate a clean MRU list... or so the theory... ;)

>> Does not work.

works for me... remember it states the SEARCH MRU...

you can also limit the number of items displayed on the jumplist, by following the instructions below:

1. click the ORB (START)
2. move mouse to pinned program that displays lots of entries in the JL...
3. move over to JL and right click, on an empty space, then choose Properties...
4. a new window should appear, in this window you should be on the second TAB (StartMenu), click on the Customize
5. a new window should pop up, there on the last line it should read something along the lines of: Number of Recent Items to display in Jump Lists:, in the box next to it you should be able to limit the items, e.g. default should read 10...
