Delay on 911 Cama Trunks

We have 2 cama trunks that are fully operational, however there is a 10-12 second delay before the PSAP starts to ring. Also 2 OSN alerts are sent to the TTY when a 911 call is made. Is this normal? I have little to no experience with cama trunks.

Yes the delay is to prevent 911 misdials and the OSN is On Site Notification.

If someone dials 911+ any other number they will get busy sig.

Is there a way to cut the delay in half, also should there be 2 osn notifications from the same call?

I don't think it can be changed, but even if it can I wouldn't do it as this delay alows the caller to who really wanted to dial another number and looks away to check the number before continuing to dial.

You can also turn it off completly and have a 911 call go out right away, but then you have to worry about to many false alarms and having to pay a fine for it.


Just leave it alone.

CAMA trunks pulse out MF tones.

The sequesnc ecan be quite long especially if you are using 10 digit CLID.

Compund this with the CAMA inbound from the Selective Router to the PSAP and you have a considerable amount of delay.

Are you able to use your PRI trunks for E911, or does your LEC demand that you use CAMA (Qwest usually does). Also make sure you have ESA setup correctly. If you are sending 9-911 to an SPN with FLEN of 0 you have a considerable delay there as well from the NIT timer.

If you document and post your actual set-up, we can determine if there are areas that can be improved on.

Based on the configuration provided, it appears you do not have ESA implemented in the PBX. The main cause of your delay is the SPN programming.

SPN assumes a FLEN of 0, therefore the NIT timer as defined in LD 15 (usually 6 or 8 seconds) is in play on every 911 or 9-911 call.

Add this to the inherent setup time of CAMA trunks (6 to 8 seconds) and you have a 12 to 18 second delay on all of your E911 calls out of the switch.

Yes I did miss that. Thanks.

Couple of things.

The SPN of 11 is going nothing since ESA is on, you can remove that.

DMI 95 should be DEL 0 INST (null)
The DMI needs to be there, but does not need to modify any digits. What you have works fine, but common practice is to not manipulate any digits.

Also the DDGT (only applicable to CAMA) is only sending 11? This makes no sense. You should set to 911 here.

Now there are 2 tests that you need. (Schedule with the PSAP!)

1.) Dial 911 and time from the last digt press to the first ring.

2.) Dial 9-911 and time from the last digt press to the first ring.

The delta between the 2 is the amount of time that the NIT timer is injecting into the 9-911 SPN calls.

I suggest you set the 911 SPN to:
