Hi all,

My first post, so be patient with me please. I've got an Avaya Definity G3 V12 to which I'd like to link an Asterisk server (running Freeswitch). I've found a number of blogs and posts detailing the steps but I'm stuck getting the link to read "in service" on Definity. I've installed a TN464 into the location 01B10. On the Asterisk PC I installed a PhonicEQ Inc. E100P RAVEN E1/PRA Card. I've tried configuring as both a T1 and an E1. I'm having somewhat better luck with E1 as I get an "OK" status in the FreePBX Administration screen:

Here is what I think are the relevant settings in Definity:

This is where I'm stuck. I cannot seem to get passed the "out-of-service" status.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

also on the ds1 on the definity have you tried other setting such as HOST, NETWORK OR PBX, keep in mind that 1 side needs to handle the clocking

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the rapid response.

The Asterisk PC is sitting on top of the Definity cabinet. The RJ-45 cable is about 3 feet. I tried playing with the clock settings at both ends to no avail. Any other ideas will be appreciated.

Let's start at the link layer...
Can you do a test board 01B10 and show the results? Does test 144 pass?

Hi Joe,

I purchased a AVAYA / SYSTIMAX 356A AMPHENOL ADAPTER. (8) RJ45 PORTS / JACKS to get from amphenol to RJ 45. Another blog I read indicated that a normal Ethernet Patch Cable was all I needed from that point. In fact, I get an "OK" and green light on Asterisk with the regular patch cable. I've since tried a cable built as per your diagram and it gets worse. I get a BLU/RED alarm on Freeswitch with that cable.

Thx.

Michael

anytime I have tied two pbx together they were looking for a rolled ti cross over cable, have you tried a rolled ethernet cable

Hi Joe,

My Googling of rolled cables shows them to have a mirrored pin array. i.e. Pin 8 to Pin 1, Pin 7 to Pin 2, Pin 6 to Pin 3, and so on. I'm going to build a cable like that and try it. The cable built as per the link you posted earlier did not fare well. I appreciate your patience as we work this out.

Michael

Since you have passed test 144 (and all the others), plus the green light came on I don't think you need to work on the cable anymore. I'm assuming the TN464 is also lit up with a green light.

Are you trying to build an NI2 or QSIG trunk? What settings can you manipulate on the Asterisk side?

Randy,

I think I'm heading with NI2, but I'll do whatever works. Here's what I can manipulate on the Asterisk/Freeswitch side:

freepbx2.jpg

Thanks again.

Michael

What other options under signaling?

It seems like the problem here is the D channel is not coming up, since the DS1 is coming across okay (according to the test board command earlier).

The signalling options are as follows:
--PRI--
PRI - CPE
PRI - Net

--E & M--
E & M
E & M -- Wink
E & M -- fead(DTMF)

--ANALOG--
FXOKS
FXOLS

--RHNIO--
FXSKS
FXSLS

--BRI--
BRI PTP - Net
BRI PTP - CPE
BRI PTMP - Net
BRI PTMP - CPE

Michael

Change PRI to CPE instead of net. I'm not 100% sure how all those settings would work together but I'd mess with those to start. The goal here is for your status sign X to say In-Service.

No luck so far, Randy and Joe. But you've helped me determine a few things that it's not. I revisit tomorrow with a fresh set of eyes. Thanks again for sticking with me on this.

Thanks for checking in, Joe. Sadly, no luck. We thought maybe the TN464 we had was bad so we picked up another one on Ebay. It arrived this week and the result was identical. I'm wide open to additional suggestions. One correction to above... Randy wrote:

In fact, we are not getting the green light on the TN464, only the Asterisk side goes green.

In addition, I don't think our G3 is permitted to do QSIG so I think we're stuck with National.

At this point, I'd be willing to pay a bounty to have someone make this work for us.

I would configure both to work as a tradtional T1 - ESF/b8zs wink/wink.

I you get this to work, then you know for sure that the cabling and circuit packs are good.

Then convert to a pri.

Will give this a try on Monday. Thanks for the advice.
