i tried the faqs.did not understand it.can someone please tell me in a simpler way to do this.

I've done a guide for most of the UK systems. I have also included the FAQ for the North American models. Can you get into the system via "F" ** ADMIN ?.

On Norstar generic systems made after version One,
You will need to change the date back to an earlier time by logging in using the customer's access password. Do this first! before you access the "DEBUG" section.
If both the "ADMIN" & "CONFIG" codes have been altered, Then you must use the other method as shown at the bottom of page 6.
Access "DEBUG" afterwards as shown below near the bottom of this page.

On early Norstar systems, Use "Feature" ** "ADMIN" & the Password = "#~#~#"

Here are some known earlier dates & passwords for "DEBUG".
"DEBUG" can now be accessed after this date change has been carried out.

Date Password
1 February 1991 144900
13 October 1992 940210

The "DEBUG" password is defined by the date & it changes every day.
Access to "DEBUG" can only be done by using M7310 or M7324 Terminals.
Otherwise you will get "ACCESS DENIED" appear on the LCD display.

Access to the Debug section is as follows..
------------
KEY | FEATURE ** |
------------
------------
KEY | 33284 |
------------
------------
KEY | "PASSCODE" | (Needed on later versions)
------------

The display will then change to show "1.RESTART INFO"
Which is the start of the section.

( SHOW = --> NEXT = -- )

----------- ----------
| 1.RESTART |--| 2.MEMORY |
----------- ----------

----------------
| 2. MEMORY DUMP | This section is where you can find the
---------------- password codes for "CONFIG" & "ADMIN"

Note!

The address is usually 6 Digits long & it is in "hex" code.
The "CONFIG" password is listed first on the display, Read every Second digit to obtain the first Four numbers
(All other numbers should read Zero).
Press the "NEXT" key to list out the last Two numbers.
The "ADMIN" password is shown next on the display with "SCPLUS" for Compact +.
(Two numbers are shown & keying "NEXT" will list out the last Four digits to complete the "ADMIN" password).

For example hex address 3E040A (Norstar Compact 1A) will show....
3E040A: 0?0? 0?0?
Which means password ? ? ? ? (Is the first Four digits of the password)

If an "F" appears instead of a number, Then please ignore it.
This is because the memory hex location code is spare. In other words, The password is less than Six digits long!.
The password can also be found on unknown versions by entering a known hex address for a previous version & scrolling up / down using the
"BACK" & "NEXT" keys until the password appear on the screen.

2. MEMORY DUMP
|
| ( SHOW = --> NEXT = --- )
V
ADDRESS:_
(Key the Hash "#" button to advance to the next digit)
(Press the "NEXT" button when the Sixth digit has been entered)

As your Norstar system is a non UK version, I'll copy in the information thats on this sites FAQ as follows...

SYSTEM TYPE HEX ADDRESS SYSTEM ID NUMBER (NA)

MICS C00DEA R1T1
CICS C010A8 1.0
MICS C0101C 1.0

You will have to try & look for where the ADMIN" code is located & work it out for yourself.

Best of luck!.

this is very helpful but,i know i have 6.1 software it is a cics.what date would i use and where would i get the hex address.can you explain how to complete this.if it is the one you used in the example it does not work on my unit.
thanks

You can use either one of the two dates that I have given you to access "DEBUG". I don't know the HEX address code for a Compact Plus 6.1. I do know the ones for the UK.
They are as follows...

SYSTEM TYPE VERSION HEX ADDRESS SYSTEM ID
Nstr Compact Plus 5.07 (Rlse 1) C01206 SP:30AYF07 GP4
" Compact Plus 8.09 (Rlse 3) C01CC6 SP:30NwI09 GP9
" Compact Plus 4.01 (Rlse 4) C01CEA SP:30AsE01 NP03
" Compact Plus 4.00 (Rlse 5) C01CEA SP:30CnE00 NP3B

My advice is for you to try out one of these codes & then press the "Next" key to advance the hex address until you come across the line of hex which has the "ADMIN" code listed.
This will be something like..

C01206: 0203 0604 (Which means _A_D _M_I)
C01208: 060? 0?0? ( _N_ )

If you can find this out, then the "CONFIG" passcode
will be listed BEFORE the "ADMIN" code. (Use the "Back" key to find it!).

ok it worked!!!!!!! you are great. Now to push my luck a little how would i do the same for mics w4.1 and later.
thanks

Thanks Guys for the apprication. I'm glad that I have offer some help for you.

I guess that I could update my own "Debugging" guide to include the "Non" UK Norstars / Companion & BCM etc. Is there anybody who could act as my "Eyes" by letting me know what the different Hex address's are for your different systems please?.
If it's possible, Then could I have as many details as possible from you such as the Version type, full SP No, etc. i,e,

System Type HEX Address System ID Nu (NA) Map File

I would also like to know if the System version uses a NRU Map file.

If this can be done, Then I'll contact the person who wrote the FAQ on this web site for permission to update it.
I think it's long overdue now as there has been many software changes.

Is Norstar / Companion is use in countries other than North America / UK?. I would like to be able to include as much information as possible for you all.

P.S. As far as I know, The Hex address for the different Mics versions is almost the same as the Cics.

A very concise guide in the form of a table consisting of:

SYSTEM, SOFTWARE, DATE TO USE, HEX ADDRESS, NRU MAP FILE

would be wonderful. A noble project.

firebirdscrambler is there really that big a difference between UK and North American versions? As in software version numbering?

As far as I know, at least from Nortel literature here in Canada, Nortel claims that Norstar is the most widely used system in the world, with users in 30 countries around the world.

I believe the answer is yes as the latest UK Cics software version is Release 5. If anybody can help me, then can they reply back & just keep on adding the data to this topic please by copying & pasting the info please.
i.e.

System Type HEX Address System ID (NA)
Nstr Compact Plus 5.07 (Rlse 1) C01206 SP:30AYF07 GP4
" Compact Plus 4.01 (Rlse 4) C01CEA SP:30AsE01 NP03

Can you make sure that the ID is in the correct letter case please?

Thanks

Interesting. In N/A we had no release 5 (CICS 4.2 was equivalant to MICS 5.0). It then jumped to 6.0 and then 6.1 for both. So it might be difficult to translate. Even the system ID's will probably be different.

I have a copy of a Cics 6.1 & I can debug that one. The hex address will always be in the same area depending on the software release. i.e. I mean that the hex address for a e.g. 5.0 will be before the hex address of a 6.1 etc.
UK releases don't have any reference to the NA ones. i.e. a UK Release 5 is not the same as a NA 5.0.

ok i used co1cea for 6.1 rel 1 on a cics and was able to debug it

Thanks for the message "telemarv" I'll start off the project with the following details...

System Type HEX Address System ID (NA) Map file

MICS 4.1 C01CC6 SP 30NdG15

Lets hope that others can add to this list.
