Dead Phones...?

Have a few 5601 handsets that I have a reason to believe got rebooted while they were downloading a flash from our TFTP server. Whenever they are plugged in, all lights are solid, and they stay that way forever. Have tried to program an extension, use the [HOLD]+RESET+# command, use the [HOLD]+LOGOFF+# command, but nothing works.

Is there a way to fix this, or should the phones be tossed in the garbage?

if interrupted during the process where it comes up on the screen and says "do not unplug or turn off" then...... they are a great bin ornament!
 
That's the problem with 4601's - no screen so no warning.

They can be reset by HOLD RESET, but in my experience you have to try it so many times that without a screen for feedback as to whether you've been succesful or not its as good as impossible.
 
Yes, the lack of the screen is indeed a pain. Reading the different flashing light patterns might as well be Morse code, and on that note, Morse code would be easier to understand.

I spoke with Avaya today and they said that even if the phones were interrupted during a flash, they should have still booted up and continued to download a new flash image. I was able to observe the phones back at the switch, and it looked like they just continually rebooted every 10 seconds or so. Oh well, cannot complain... they will be sending replacements. =)

where they actually pulling the bin file from the tftp server? I had a problem with a dhcp ack error on a 5610 and had to reset the phone via hold reset but it took 5 or 6 tries to get it to work
 
It most likely upgraded ok, the phone is most likely in the setup mode where you would enter the settings such as IP addresses etc. If you make note of the menu's on a 5610, they will work exactly as the 5601's. Did they work on the system previously or are you setting them up for the first time on the system? If they were previously working on the system, they may be sitting there waiting for you to enter extension and password.
 
Ahh Superjenks, maybe you haven't had the full joy of 4601/5601 phones.

To misquote Clint Eastwood - "Maybe I flashed four times, maybe I flashed five times - I don't know, well punk, do you feel lucky" - when there's a problem the feedback on these things relies on spotting how many 50ms flashes the lamp gives as the phone powers up. Miscount and its start again.
