Hi all, hopefully just a quick one this time! I was just wondering if anybody else had problems with their IP Offices not automatically changing their clocks? The customer is running an IP500 with embedded voicemail and I don't think they have a time server set up that the IPO could get the time from. Would altering the time offset in the System tab sort this out if I changed it to -1:00?

If theres no NTP the IPO is getting its time from the VMPRO server

Or you can set up a button on a user to be able to change the time.

On 6.0 set the user to system rights level 2. then add in a self admin button with action data 2. then they can press that to adjust the time.

And it works, isn't that a nice feature ?

Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Remember to set the time server IP address to 0.0.0.1 this means the IP500 internal clock does not look on the network for the time. Then set the time button up as described previously & it works as far back as 4.2.??. I put the button on the Reception phone but they all still rang in on Monday needing to know how to change the time !!!!
You could also set up an IP route to a time server on the find the gateway IP & point it should never need adjusting. Have not got round to trying this yet.

if trying to fins an internet server remember that IPO uses Time not NTP.
(rfc 868) not all timeservers still support this old protocol

I do not Have A.D.D. im just easily, Hey look a Squirrel!

Does setting the time server IP address to 0.0.0.0 make it take the time from the local network automatically ? I'm sure the time is only updated when the unit is rebooted.

BTW does anyway know of the IP address of an external time server ?

> I'm sure the time is only updated when the unit is rebooted

The IP queries the programmed time source on boot and every hour subsequently

if the Tme server address is set to 0.0.0.0, the IPO will attempt to query the programmed address for the Voicemail machine. The VMpro software has a Time server built in as does the Manager sofwtare. However, when both start, they will check to see if the server has a Time server running already(i.e is VM already running or is manager running) and will disable their own timerserver. So, under certain circumstances, you can stop the voicemail PC from providing time to the IPO...

If the time server address is set to 0.0.0.0 and the voicemail address is not set (or embedded VM) the IPO will broadcast on the local LANs to find a time server.

Finally, a time server address of 0.0.0.1 will disable the Time client.

so "the time is only updated when the unit is rebooted" is incorrect.

As for an external Time server, as the tiem protocol is now deprecated, Time servers are being decomissioned and are getting harder to find but try here

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Thanks Tom

Note, that any external Time server will provide the time in GMT, while the IPO tools use the adjusted time of the PC.
Meaning, if you manage to find an external Time server, you still have to change the time offset for daylight saving!

A big thank you to Avaya for implementing NTP in 6.1 !

As I don't expect them to implement NTP on older releases too, your only options are: 1. Have something reliable in the network running voicemail lite (install it as service), 2. Sell voicemail pro, 3. Have a manager PC, where Manager is always open, 4. As a BP you can do (1), and let your customers get the time from you. But make sure you have a static public IP.

Its unbelievable that we have to take care about something like that in the year 2010.
Btw. If your IP500v2 is running in partner mode, it can take the time from the ISDN!

Here are some NTP time servers: 132.163.4.101 64.142.103.194 and 69.25.96.13 try those...

Hope that helps!

what we do is leave port 37 udp open and directed to a pc with manager always running. we then set the time server as our public ip. works a treat.

Deja Vu?
seems that this problem creeps up every time the daylight saving time starts or ends.

Has anyone tried to setup a self administer button on 6.0.18 with a 1400 series phone?
I can't find the "system phone" checkmark any more and enabling self administer for T3 phones didn't do the trick.
