> I'm sure the time is only updated when the unit is rebooted
The IP queries the programmed time source on boot and every hour subsequently
if the Tme server address is set to 0.0.0.0, the IPO will attempt to query the programmed address for the Voicemail machine. The VMpro software has a Time server built in as does the Manager sofwtare. However, when both start, they will check to see if the server has a Time server running already(i.e is VM already running or is manager running) and will disable their own timerserver. So, under certain circumstances, you can stop the voicemail PC from providing time to the IPO...
If the time server address is set to 0.0.0.0 and the voicemail address is not set (or embedded VM) the IPO will broadcast on the local LANs to find a time server.
Finally, a time server address of 0.0.0.1 will disable the Time client.
so "the time is only updated when the unit is rebooted" is incorrect.
As for an external Time server, as the tiem protocol is now deprecated, Time servers are being decomissioned and are getting harder to find but try here

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.
