Now that I've gotten into the SDI Port, here is what's happening when I power up the unit.

It consistently cycles an OS RESTART - here is what keeps cycling.

I've removed all cards except the SSC and it still does it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Seems like the S/W daughterboard is blank and you will need to load the S/W from a PCMCIA card.

When I try to do that, I get the following:

-------------------------
CONTROL-I entered. Invoking install setup program from SW Delivery Card.
DRAMOS load from SW Delivery Card failed.

Everytime I have seen that error it has either been a bad PCMCIA card, the card wasn't formatted correctly, or someone used the Card Programmer tool Nortel has that doesn't work.

I suggest getting a another PCMCIA card, copy the S/W executable to it, & execute the S/W by double clicking it. When you double click it, it will auto extract and populate the folders onto the card.

Do you have the S/W executable or did it already come populated onto the PCMCIA card?

On the PCMCIA card, there is an executable "a-cala_450W_r17.exe"

Is that the one I need?

If so, since I only have one PCMCIA card, I will just back up the data from the card before I invoke the executable.

I guess reseting the system as a new install is a non-issue now since there's nothing on the daughterboard anyway?

What happens to the features that were activated previously using keycodes that were never provided to me when I purchased the system?

Much of this is all better answered by others, but I can tell you I'd read that PCMCIA card into your PC as an "image" file using (free for limited number of uses)

That way, you always have a track for track copy you can write back to any new card.

Right now, that card is all you got. WinImage can make a track for track image backup of it. It's not just a copy of the files, but the entire format of the card

If you don't have the keycode sheet then you will not be able to complete the installation anyway. If you feel that the system should have come up without installing the S/W, then check the S/W daughterboard and dongle, make sure they are seated firmly. If so, contact the people you purchased the system from to obtain the keycode sheet/license information.

Definitely seated correctly as far as I can see - the dongle is in place - someone wrote 'old' on it in marker. ??

As for the Key Codes - the purchase was made from a network liquidator - so I'm S.O.L. in that area.

do you have the dongle SID? it can be found on the dongle, then punch it up in the KRS on Nortel.com

The dongle SID is 10144953.

I have no idea what the KRS is on Nortel.com.

KRS is the keycode retrieval system for Nortel. I looked up your serial number and can see it is a release 4.50W system with a release 4 CallPilot. However, only the distributor of record can see the keycodes. A distributor can send Nortel a distibutor of record change request for that serial number and Nortel will usually change it within 24 hours.

If you can't get the system up with what you have purchased and cannot get support from the liquidator you purchased from, then you might want to call a vendor to come help you.

telebub is right! I am concerned about the last line, DONGLE NULL? it almost seems as if Nortel has decommisioned the PBX. A Nortel distributor could get the PBX registered to them and then be able to get you the info you need, but I hope you have some money left!!

Here is some more info on your system!!

Distributor - Westcon Group North America Inc
End User - MITRE CORP -SRS CONTRCT # 164319

OK - so I know what needs to be done at this point - and I can't get any assistance from the liquidator.

Can someone perhaps 'ballpark' the cost of getting the Distributor changed and the key-codes retrieved?

Or what if I just go to the registered distributor?

I would certainly try the registered distributor first! They may have the keycodes on file somewhere, if they are still in business........ Otherwise, I know of a distributor in CN that could maybe help you

Still more info!

I called the distributor and essentially she told me that since the equip was purchased on eBay, that it was considered grey market, not supported and that she would give me nothing.

She advised that I needed to know who the reseller was in order to get any further, however, was unable/unwilling to provide any information on who that was.

What does "Donor System Customer" mean?

Who can I contact in Canada to assist in getting the keycodes?

BlackBox, office in Toronto. Donor system I believe means that it was given to someone else.... Try calling Tech Data once, worth a shot!

Heya shawntoronto, post an update when you can, I've always wondered what would happen when someone bought a used system.. cause on occasion i have considered it.

Grab a drink, sit down.

So, the update is this.

I called the Distributor (Westcon) and was told they don't talk to anyone but Resellers and it's unlikely that a Reseller would talk to someone who purchased equipment in a 'grey market' channel (i.e. eBay). She was unable to locate the Reseller based on the information I provided.

I called Donor System Customer (Data tech) and was told, the don't talk to anyone but Resellers and that due to privacy concerns, they could not give me the name of the reseller who handled this system.

I called the original customer of record (Mitre) and when I finally got someone who worked in their telecom dept, he advised that they don't keep records of key-codes, equipment serial numbers, etc. Once it's gone, it's gone.

I called Black Box in Toronto and spoke to a very nice lady who tried to talk me out of pursuing this based on the fact that setting up used equipment is, and I quote, "a dogs breakfast when it comes to supporting it after the fact".

My query was simple. I purchased hardware, and wanted the key-codes to activate it. The codes had been purchased by the original customer and would only work on this equipment which I own. She advised that the original customer does not have to release the key code licenses. (Perhaps they are transferrable to new equipment?)

Anyway, she said she will look into costing for new key codes, however, said that they would unlikely be willing to register the equipment into my name at the end of the day. But she will look into it.

I'm exhausted.
