We have a 406 running IP Office 3.1 (65). We have several user's cell phone numbers entered into the company directory - both in IP Office and on a printout we circulate, what we'd like is when someone calls into the office from their cell phone to have the name that we have for that number in IP Office's directory show up on the phone displays.

Since in the US very few cell service providers actually try your name to your cell number (T-Mobile is a notable exception), what comes through now is Wireless Caller 95555555555, Att Wireless 95555555555, or something similar and it's impossible to figure out who's calling if you don't have their number memorized. I had read somewhere in this forum that this was possible by adding the names and numbers into the IP Office Directory. We already had these names in the directory and it didn't work; I tried entering the numbers exactly as they come through over the caller ID and it still doesn't work.

Does anyone know if this is possible in IP Office 3.1 (65)? (I know we should upgrade to a newer release but getting our vendor to upgrade us has been like pulling teeth.)

Looks like you are inserting a prefix in the line so the number won't match the directory. I think on 3.1 it matches would have to check. If the number in the directory with the 9 in front you would get a match.

3.1 was a long time ago, this is off the top of my head.

Yes, 9 is the prefix that we dial for outbound calls; but when outside calls come into the system they show up with the prefix. I have entered numbers into the directory exactly as they come into the system, but no luck.

In which version of IP Office is this known to work?

Thanks for the help Notsetinstone, I'll just have to let the president of my company know that this isn't possible until we upgrade. Kind of a bummer, he was so excited when I told him that this was possible.

What happens when you dial one of the numbers using the directory function (either Phonemanager or Softconsole)

Is this only cellphone calls or all calls?

TBH, unless the is some US wierdness, it should just work, at virtually any version. It certainly does in the UK.

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

mattKnight, the problem isn't dialing the calls from the directory - that works fine. In my first post I explain that what I want to accomplish is have a custom caller ID display for some of our employees' cell phones. For example, instead of coming in as Wireless Caller 95555555555 I would like it to display John Doe 95555555555.

I read that this was possible by entering the numbers into the main system-wide IP Office Directory - not a user's personal Phone Manager/Soft Console directory. I did this but the custom names are not showing up. So I asked if this was possible on IP Office v3.1 (65) and if not on what version is it possible.

It works on all IPO versions. It's basic Alpha Tagging.

If the number in your system directory is the same as the CLI coming in (prefixes and all), then it should be fine and show the name prgrammed in the directory.

I would get Monitor running with ISDN enabled and see exactly what is being received from the ISDN.

This should be straight forward, otherwise (Quote from MK above) it's US weirdness!!!!

Thanks for all the responses, I opened Monitor and took a look at what is actually being passed to the system and here is what I found. The number does come in with the 9 prefix, it says: CallingNum=95555555555 (John Doe's Cell), but later on in Monitor I see: Display [WIRELESS CALLER>John Doe]. It appears that the name is being pulled out of the directory but not being displayed/forwarded to the phone. Is there a setting that I need to enable?

Post the monitor trace for us to see, there is nothing you need to enable.

Wait, I feel like an idiot. Name match is not supplied when CID name is supplied. CID name overrides the directory. I know this from my house. I wanted it to show my kids when MOM was calling by putting MOM CALLING in the directory, but since we have name an number CID it doesn't work.

So, get rid of CID name and keep CID number or live with it.

Interesting, we don't get such fancy options here in the UK :)

Is there anyway to strip out the CID and substitute what with the names in the directory?

We have PRI (30 channels)which is mostly used and BRI (2 channels) or analogue and SIP obviously, but all you get is number no name. It costs like pennies a month on PRI/BRI but usually free on analogue trunks.

To know who we speak to we rely on the directory or memory:)

I believe we can indeed call this US wierdness
