Currently installing 2 IP office 500v2 7.0.27 with a Voicemail pro on a customer provided server.

trying to setup scn between sites they have 12 scn lic on each side i can ping via ssa from each side but when i place a call i capture a trunk only on the side initiated and get a response unobtainable.

customer has the following equipment in place
Sonicwall NSA 3500 firware sonic os enhanced 5.8.0.5

Any ideas as to what might be the issue.

Thanks

Turn off any h.323 or sip stuff in the sonicwall routers.
These settings should help but they don't
I don't know the name of the option but i think you might know what i mean.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I had the NAT disabled but still having the same problem.

Sonicwall devices have as long history on this site of interfering with SCN links and remote extensions etc, a search will reveal this. It is where the problem lies but finding it is the hard part :)

BYW, you are looking for H323 packet inspection or application layer gateways etc but not NAT settings I wouldn't have thought :)

the guys from IT keep telling me all ports are open between sites and are using a Polycom Video conference between sites as their proof, since its setup H.323.

Any suggestions?

SCN is something different then H.323
Packet inspection should be turned off.

It is in the routers for sure.
Get another IP500 (with SCN licenses ofcourse) and connect it onsite and it will work.
If it doesn't work then you made a mistake.

The IT guys may say that, they are nearly always proved wrong. Polycom equipment uses totally different ports to the Avaya equipment so it proves nothing other than the ports for Polycom is ok. You need some network traces and it will reveal packets being lost/blocked on specific ports, you can use paping.exe to ping the relevant ports and see if it makes it :)

Post traces from monitor of the system attempting the SCN link, you can even select to show the SCN traffic, select the options in this tab in monitor:

Thanks,

Sonicwall had an option regarding H.323 translation (or so i was told) on took me a while to convince the IT guys to turn this option off. They only agreed to turn off the option at the remote location, but it works. tested in both directions and everything looks good.

Stupid IT guys!
Why are they so stubborn? they really have no clue what voice means.

The sad thing is that this stuff is disabled by default and they turn it on. Sonicwall VPN is actually very easy to set up, and in my experience, quite reliable.
