Calvin says it's easy, but I can't get this to work. The service doesn't show up in my Administrative Tools -> Services.

The registry entry is present and the exe works. I installed srvany.

I am testing on an XP Pro box but ultimately want to install on Win2000/2003 servers.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the feedback. When I figure out my problem I will post a follow up.

I suspect that I too will be able to get it to work.

I believe my problem was that I didn't put copies of instsrv.exe and srvany.exe into the same directory as my program. I still haven't had the time to pull it all together and verify what's working though.

Does the full Resource Kit need to be installed, or do we really just need instsrv.exe and srvany.exe?

Thank you,
Brian

Nor did I.
I don't think that's necessary since the full path needs to be supplied when running srvany.

I'm not sure if the full resource kit needs to be installed either, but I did.

I think I have it figured out now and have posted faq1251-6355 How to create a Windows service.

The full resource kit is not needed, only instsrv.exe and srvany.exe.

In the FAQ I attempt to streamline the process by automating the registy entry, registering the service and starting it up.

Thanks for everyone's help.
