Crackle on DS16 V2

Hey all,
I have an existing perfectly working IP Office 406 V2 (4.2(23)) and a newly delivered DS16 V2.

I updated the software on the DS16 using manager 6.2(23), i think it was on 5.1(something) if i remember correctly to 6.2(23) to match the IP Office software version and now manager can see all the new extensions and it appears to work normally.

However, if i then power cycle the unit, when it comes back up i get crackle on all digital extensions connected to the DS16 and calls don't succeed due to DTMF not registering (i think).

This goes on until i plug in another digital extension to the DS16 or take a digital extension out and plug it back in again on the DS16, after that it works perfectly until the next power cycle.

The IP Office continues to function normally throughout.

Have i done something wrong here or does this sound like a faulty unit?

Thanks

You have to upgrade it in two steps.
You have skipped upgrading to 3.2.999
This is still an option so change the working directory in manager to C:/Program File/Avaya/IP Office/Manager/3.2.999

After upgrading to 3.2.999 change the working directory back and upgrade the module again.

Then your issues will be gone.

BAZINGA!

Thanks,
Having asked the question (probably a bit prematurely) i headed over to ipofficeinfo and found the relevant tech bulletin (80 if anyone is interested).

On page 67 it explains the procedure and im in the middle of doing the 3.2.999 part now.

Thanks

Damn, Same issue.

I downgraded to 5.2(999) from 6.2(23) by changing the working directory to 3.2.999, upgrading then changing the working directory to "Manager" again and upgrading again.

Still get crackle on the extensions connected to the DS16 unless i disconnect / reconnect or add another extension.

One thought, it was on 5.1 something, not 5.2(999). I cant seem to downgrade further than what's in 3.2.999 e.g. 3.1.999, as the option is greyed out when i goto upgrade.

Any ideas?

Bad wiring on ine or more ports.
Did you have isdn phones in the past?

No mate, no ISDN phones.

Incidentally, what do you mean by bad wiring? The phones are connected directly to the DS16, using the same cable that works perfectly when I connect the same phone to the IP Office 406.

Maybe bad power supply.. Can you swap out the one that came with it?

Assuming also you have only used the blue 1 meter shielded patch lead to connect it and not something longer :)

I have only used the blue interconnect cable supplied, looked about 50cm to me though not 1m.

Unfortunately i haven't got another supply to try it with, i had a look at the IP Office power supply and whilst that's 24V its a different amperage so i'm not going to try that.

I've sent a query back to my supplier, he suggested that the DS16 should be turned on first allowed to boot then you should power up the 406.

I tried that and it didn't work either but i wondered if this was true as its not too handy in a power outage.

It is true, but if you power both up at the same time the expansion module does tend to boot before the system so it tends not to be an issue, the system is supposed to be behind a UPS though, so it should be a rare thing :)

Swap the DS16v2 unit and see what happens.
I think it is broken.

Can I quickly check what version of firmware 5402 phones should be running when the system is at 4.2(23).

They show as relevant 2.0, and I'm wondering if they should be at related 5.

I tried to run turn_on.bat with the ip of the unit set in the bathroom file but it just times out and nothing seems to happen when I reboot the unit.

Just trying to cover all bases really.

The 5402 cannot upgrade, there is no newer firmware for them.
Only the 5410 or 5420 need to upgrade.

Thanks, that's one more possibility to cross off the list.

It's going back then.
