CPU usage is insanely high....

I am fixing a computer for a client and I just can't find a solution to this. Someone please impress me by showing off their imminse knowledge. A computer I am working on has cpu usages or 100 percent; almost all the time. I have got all the lateest drivers and chipset drivers and have checked all the parts. It has windows xp on it. Its a AMD 1700 athlon xp. Thanks for all of your help!

Check the running processes - it's probably System Idle. It does the same as CPUidle and is supposed to help to keep the CPU temperature down. It isn't really using the processor - it just gets reported like that.

You should check if a service is running on the background that comsumes a lot of cpu time.

i had the same problem when running some cpu monitoring programs for cooling....noticed the cpu usage was always around 100%...removed the software and usage was back to normal.
