Hoooray! The Yellow Pages misprinted our number on their free listing. They printed an extension that does not answer the main number at all.

So, when outside calls come in to this number I thought it would be a good idea to put up a message that says "Press 1 to speak to dept X, otherwise please hold for the attendant". I have the vector setup for the message and created a coverage path that redirects outside calls to the vector. However, to make things more complicated (It's never easy!) the extension also needs to roll over to another extension if not answered.

I know a call that has been covered cannot be covered again. Is there any way I can get this functionality without changing the extension or reassigning it to a VDN? The extension needs to remain the same for internal calls.

Can you get a copy of your vector? You can create a VDN which is associated to a vector and use this VDN in the cover path. Then you can possibly add a ucd hunt group to be the cover point hope this makes sense

2140 is the extension in question. I will give the hunt group idea a try and see if it works.

Code:
display vector 151 Page 1 of 6
                                  CALL VECTOR

Number: 151 Name: Mammo YP Redir

03 route-to number 0 with cov n if unconditionally
04 stop

I don't think the hunt group idea will work. I need the call to roll to another extension if not answered after a specified number of rings. With the hunt group, it looks like it will only forward if the first station is busy. This means that if 2140 is not busy, the call will route there and ring indefinately since it cannot be covered a second time... correct?

I'm thinking that I will end up having to change the extension to a VDN for this to work correctly. The first coverage path is only setup for outside calls. Will internal calls skip that cover and go to the second option set for that station (original cover)?

yes, just add a 2nd point of coverage in the original cover path, for the "backup" extension"

If you are using ISDN trunks, you can grab the incoming DNIS digits and change it to the correct extension. Depending on your software version it is either part of the Trunk Group form or, on the newer versions, it's on the Incoming Call Handling table (change inc-call-handling-trmt trunk-group x).

4merAvaya, If I do that, the extension would not be able to receive outside calls directly. I don't want the attendant to have to field each legitimate outside call that comes to the department.

You should just be able to reroute the number as 4merAvaya says, and route it back to the original VDN.
Lets say the extension is 6789 and the called outside number is 123456789. You delete all 9 digits and replace them with whatever number you like, lets say the right vdn for main is 6700

Code:
INCOMING CALL HANDLING TREATMENT
 Service/Feature CalledLen CalledNumber Del Insert
 public-ntwrk 9 123456789 9 6700
The extension will stay as is, only you will reroute the DID to a diffrent endpoint on the trunk end.
Actually you could give the original extension a diffrent DID also this way, though it will mess up your 1:1 numberplan.
