I was asked to check the spelling on a document that was written in English and alltough I can search for most words in the dictionary. Some words are not in there and the grammar is sometimes problem too. So I kindly ask for your help.

telogen phase hair or telogen-phase hair

in the sentence

It's common knowledge that the limiting factors in obtaining a STR profile are the quality

is a or an STR

I tend to say nucliei (more then one nucleus) but they wrote it nuclei am I pronouncing it wrong?

Very well then. My apologies for not remembering that you are from Belgium. (I know it's in your signature, but I often skip over those things.) Your English is far better than by Belgian is, or ever will be.

But I told them the thruth.

LOL!! Good stuff!

"They" seem to be defending me. Thanks Ken and Gooser, but sadly chrissie is slightly off. We've learned to deal with him.

I appreciate your coming to my defense, but not to worry - Baes is harmless.

it seemed to me that he was kind of tongue-in-cheek kissing up to this illustrious group.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm always willing to improve my grammar, but I think it's a lost cause (And I was going to begin this sentence with an And).

No such thing as a belgian language, we speak Dutch or French (or German). I speak both. Less then 1% of the belgians speak German.

Yeah, I know, I could have said worse things.

Sorry Cajuncenturion for ruining this fine forum, but it's all earthandfire's misstake/fault.

...No such thing as a belgian language...

D'Oh! I should've known that. Goes to show how smart I am, right?

And here I was, thinking it was a joke on your side, and wanted to add something about his American vs. your Belgian.

The sum of all my knowledge of Belgium is,...hmmm... Germany invaded it, and they make good waffles (or at least American ad companies would have you believe that they make good waffles--whether it is actually true, I do not know.) I also now know that they don't speak 'Belgian'.

American ad companies would have you believe that they make good waffles, and also that French make good fried potatoes, and Russians use that dressing in their salads, etc.

1. Russian salad dressing? Which one is being refered to?

2. Gooser - Have you watched 'Finding Forrester' (or read, at least I'm assuming it was a book first)? Everytime someone brings up starting a sentence with 'and' or 'but' (which happens quite frequently, I work with at least 3 former English teachers), I always think of the scene where the kid and Sean Connery's character argue about starting a sentence with 'but'. :p

I don't think I've seen that, and I'm quite certain I haven't read it.

From History of Salads:

Russian Dressing - Consists of the mixture of mayonnaise, pimientos, chives, ketchup, and spices.

History: The name comes from the earliest versions that included a distinctly Russian ingredient, caviar.

So a little belgian history.

Every country you can think of has invaded belgium and lived to regret it. Julius Ceasar (Rome) once said that the belgians were the bravest of all gauls (and then he killed them).
It is one of the brightest spots in the world. From space it is even beter visible then Paris (at night).
We have Belgian wafles and brussels sprouts. But fries don't come from france but from belgium. And we have the best beer in the world.

And all the rest isn't important.

Except one thing, I'm belgian.

Susan,
Caviar with mayonnaise and ketchup? That's barbaric! Wouldn't bet on it, but I don't think that combination was created by a Russian person.

Chrissie,
Oh! Never heard of Belgian beer. I thought, Czech beer was one of the best. Although, probably, matter of taste. My brother likes some brand of Mexican beer (got to admit, before he brought it over to my home, I've never heard of it, too).

CorBlimeyLimey,

Russian salad dressing? ... Vodka?

No! Vodka is used straight - no ice (it has to be chilled itself), rarely any other mixers - just like that. Well, sometimes it could be used in cake recipes, for home-made medicinal potions - that's about it.

As for salad dressings, the most used were the following:
mayonnaise, sour cream (both were not of as thick a consistency as in USA), oil (most widely available were sunflower and corn oils), or mix of oil and vinegar - that's about it, unless someone had some special recipe and hand-made it for a special occasion.

Disclaimer: I am from Ukraine, not Russia, but I tend to think that in many places in Russia it was about the same back then when I lived there (now they are separate countries, so everything could be different).

Whatever happened to Flemish? I thought a significant part of the Belgae spoke Flemish as well as a chunk of the northern French.

Whatever happened to Flemish?

Yes you are right the dutch speaking part of belgium are called the flemish and that's why the language we speak is called Flemish but it's actually more of a dialect and not a language on it's own. Something like Canadian french or the difference between american English and English English. So we speak dutch but not like our dutch neighbours. And in the north of france there are some regions where they still speak Flemish/Dutch for the same reason that some Belgians speak German, war and politics.
