I am looking into converting from an 81c nortel to voip. I have looked at shoretel and was impressed with the capability to not only use ip phones but it also had plugins to use analog as well. Does avaya have this capability? also your thoughts on the product would be great.

Do you feel it was the right choice for you to convert?

thanks.

The Avaya Converged platform provides the capability to run all traditional analog and digital services along side the new VoIP technologies.

In my opinion if you intend to go VoIP there is no reason go with anything other than Avaya. They offer the best in class ACD and the best in Class PBX in one platform that is priced competatively with the next best options in either class.

Yes, Avaya has analog cards.... Avaya has the best phone features and call center features. In the regular office space, many such as Shoretel and Cisco compare the same as Avaya. If you implement Avaya VOIP correctly and your network is robust, it rocks.... Support wise, Avaya scored better than the rest as well... I rarely call them (I get way more help from this forum than I ever have from Avaya) but when I do, it's always a pain with complex out of the ordinary issues. They are expensive.... as well.

My Opinion..... And from information that I've read in various market research articles/white papers….. Avaya is the way to go.

As far as converting goes.... in the Avaya space if you have TDM it's not worth it to rip it out and replace with VOIP. In the end you still have dial tone at the desk. Going forward with new installs.... yes VOIP all the way. The environments can be mixed as well. Again.. my opinion..

network we have cisco 2950s' spread throughout. I know with shoretel you have to use POE switches. I am assuming the same with the avay product.

No that is not a correct assumption.... there are mid span options and power brick options...
