Hi everyone,

Yesterday I opened a .rtf attachement that was sent to my hotmail account by a friend. It opened in MS Word, I made some changes and saved often. When I went to open the file today, Word cannot find my file. Apparently I was saving it to a subfolder under Content.IE5 (one of the folders named CHK3OKS4 or whatever). Well I have searched everywhere for this folder, and for my file, but I can't find either of them. They are not in the Content.IE5 folder anywhere.

Anyone know where this oddly-named folder may have gone to die? Is my .rtf file with it? Any chance of getting this file back?

Thank you,

Can you go back to your HotMail account and get the original file from your "deleted" folder? That way you can start over and watch exactly where it goes.

Ok, I finally found the oddly named folder I was looking for (in the Content.ie5 folder), but it does not contain the .rtf file I was working on. I can't figure out what was happening everytime I saved this document, and why the folder it was saving in no longer has that file?

Does the system automatically clean itself out every once in a while or do I just need to look for the .rtf some other way?

Thanks,

Content.ie5 folder is part of your Temporary Internet Files, if you have recently cleaned them that would explain any missing files.

Use Internet Explorer/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Temporary Internet Files/ Settings/ View Files and see if it is still there somewhere.

In Search, make sure the Preferences are set to search Hidden and System files, and search your machine for *.rtf and see if you can locate it that way.

Shoot... I did all that... looks like it's gone forever... *sniff*

Thanks for your suggestions, though.
