Connecting to terminal through regular PC

Hello again,
Is there anything out there that I can get or do so that I can administer from my pc and make changes to the stations and stuff as if I was at the actual terminal. I know terronova or a software of that sort can do it, but I was wondering if there is any other way of doing it for cheaper.

Is the 4410 immulator in within the procomm software. What I mean is, is it an option that I have to set in the procomm software or is it a seperate thing that I have to get along with the procomm software. The procomm software I have but just dont know what the 4410 immulator is? : )

You should be able to set your current version of Procomm to use 4410 emulation, I haven't used it in a while so I don't remember the exact steps to tell Procomm which protocol to use but it should be a menu option you can select within the software.

Does anyone know of a reliable FTP site containing Procomm (the latest version)? Procomm has a lot of history. Personally I used to use it on 286 PCs about a decade ago. I have never seen the latest offering.

I was hoping to connect through the Lan to the PBX instead of running to the terminal when I need to change a user or station. I dont think it requires any other hardware. Am I correct.

How would I tell procomm where the PBX is once im in procomm??

Well, unless you're at R9, you're not going to be able to connect through the LAN, you would have to use dial-up or a data module.

If you are at R9 and have ip configured on the switch then I assume there is a way to tell Procomm the ip address of the PBX (connection type telnet maybe?)

If you are on R9 and have a c-lan card configured you can connect through the lan however you will have to add some settings.

Firts off you will want to change ip-services.
here is what you will need to set up
service type: SAT
enabled: Y
Local Node: Ethernet
IP services local port: andy between 5117-5121
remote node: any

I am not farmiliar with procom however if it is just a terminal service enter the IP assigned to your switch and the port which you assinged using the change ip-services command.

if you do not have release 9 the only other way is to purchase a data modual which would connect to a digital port on the switch.

Thanks for this tip. DSA is *much* faster accross the LAN than using the data mod. One question, though - do you have a list or know where I can find a list of key mappings for Win9x and Win2k's telnet clients?

DSA is much faster this way I dont know if I could ever go back to using a data mod. as far as list of key mappings sorry I dont have one I use DSA and when I need advanced commands I use the emulation in DSA under advanced.

Darn, Im only on R4 sheesh dont want to pay anymore money for the upgrade. I think theres a cost to upgrade.I'll have to find out. Thanks I'll give those thoughts a try.

IT would be both a hardware and software upgrade so im sure the cost would be substantial. A datamod might be a better option for you...

So if I was to use a Datamod I would connect the serial to the terminal port on the PBX. I have a serial port on my pbx called Terminal.

Also what is the cable that on one end has a 25 pin serial connection and the other end has a RJ11 to plug into the modem. That is probably what I will need correct.

Also how will i know what to tell it so that I can get that terminal screen will it automaticly pop up like my main terminal screen.

You would need to connect the datamod to a digital port at your desk. you would need to use a 25 pin to 9 pin nul modem cable to connect it to your serial port on your pc. then set up the data mod using add data mod. you would then terminal into the data mod which you would need to set up to dial the switch let me see if I can find the documentation for you.

as far as the cable with the 25 pin serial and the rj11 I have never seen or used one. I am using a 8400b data mod FYI.

I cant seem to find the documentation. I have not been using the data mod since my upgrade to v9 so I do not have it configured anymore.

However here is what I remember

Hook data mod to regular digital port afrom yout term type add data mod
you will want to set it up as netcom for type.

on your terminal emulation software set up
9600 baud
non parity
1 stop bit

Ok im a bit confused. At first I thought the data mod was like a regular modem. Then after reading other post I thought it was a digital phone ex:8410D digital phone. So which is it. Im a bit confused. Apologize for asking so much question but can you please explain to me what a data mod is.

If you ask avaya they will tell you it is a propriatory piece of hardware. However after playing with it more I have found it is basicaly a digital modem.

If you are talking about the other posting that I have replied to regarding I did say I was using a 8410 data mod and was mistaken the 8410 is a digital phone I was using a 8400b data mod.

When it comes to installing the data module on your pc it is just like installing an external modem. You will have to have a modem cable(most likely a 25pin to 9pin) to connect the data module to a com port on your pc. On your pc goto into the control panel and select modems then add new modem. You will need to install this as a HAYES SMARTMODEM 2400. Also if you have an 8400 data module you will be able to connect it to an already existing digital station. On the ch sta screen set the data module option to yes and goto to the last page to set it up.
