connect avaya with central office

hello everyone,
we opened a branch office and installed in the branch office an ip office small office edition. in the main office we have an ip 406. we connect to the main office with a vpn to see mail and files. the question is how to i connect the two avayas using this vpn connection we have, so that we could dial each other's extension. is it possible?

you would need to make sure you have VCM's in each system and then create an IP trunk between the 2. You need to make sure the extensions are different between the systems. if you turn on voice networking then your systems will update each other with dial plan info.

Indeed, and please realise that just because files cross the VPN with no aparant problems don't think you will not have voice issues, I have yet to see two systems linked via VPN that don't get odd niggles and dropped calls, remember it's best effort only across the net regardless of encryption and the speed of your "last mile" connection:)

ok thanks everybody. As for the voice issues problems, i dont think it will be an issue since now they dial the whole number and they want a cheap solution.
Before we had a leased line connecting central office and our last branch. and avaya was working perfectly. it was going through a cisco configuration. So in order for it to work i assume we had vcms on both. i'm kind of new to all this so any help is appreciated.

Yes they do.
There are a couple of versions.
There is one with 3 channels and one with 16 channels.

this is from monitor.
i looked inside manager and it doesn't have a vcm tab like the one in our headquarters.

It is on 3.2.999 which is a bootloader.
Upgrade it to 3.2.69 and look again.

3.2 (55) it gives me to upgrade and after the last upgrade i did i had some issues (rebooting, etc. ) and i had to erase config and rebuild the machine. I'll try to do it when our office closes.
anyway thanks to everyone this forum is amazing

the upgrade to 3.2(55) will also require the digital handsets (if using 5410/20) to be upgraded too!

well, actually, I would say that all our sites with easynet surestream connections with either Cisco or Watchguard sites dont loose a single call across a vpn link.

Do they get voice quality issues though? We rarely have control over which ADSL supplier our customers use as it's normally existing/in contract, the ones we do change are much better but never 100% :)

Nearly, so you fall into the "Odd niggles" catagory, we haven't used easynet, I assume they are a particularly good providor in your eyes :)
