OK...here's where I stand.

What happened:
Our SBS 2003 server took a dump. Wasn't pretty. We had been planning on moving to a Windows Server 2003 based domain, so this became the moment of execution. I installed the new servers with no issues.

I now have a seperate server for SQL so I installed sharepoint using the ServerFarm method. The default site looks good and everyone has access now. I then restored the contents database and added it through site administration. It shows that there are 2 sites in the contents database.

My problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get the sites to show up. I've read over countless pages on MS's and other sites and I think I'm just having a brain fart. Can someone please point me in the right direction???

Thanks

did you create a new configuration database prior to restoring the content databases?

Yes.

I went through three variations of installation attempts trying to get it to work. I did the following:

1. I created a default config and content database, then overwrote the data...killed the site.
2. I created a default config and attempted to connect to the database, killed the site...security errors.
3. I created a default config/content database, then restored the old content to a new database. Then I added the content database to the virtual server. This didn't kill the site, but I can't seem to access any of the data.

At the moment, I have the default config database, default content database and the old content database on the server. Both the default and old content databases are listed in the Virtual Server.

In any of those cases previous to or after restoring the original content database did you then remove the original default content database?

Also in your SBS implmentation did you have any 'Managed Paths' or custom inclusions that are not on this server? Did you have any custom Host Headers, that required

How are you restoring the original content database? Through STSADM, or do you have a SQL backup of the database?

If you are trying to restore the content from the original database try these steps.

1. Restore Content DB to SQL Server - Ensure your account has DBO access to the DB.

2. In the IIS create a new Web Site, and create the new directory under the InetPub directory. Uncheck Anonymous access before completing site creation.

3. In WSS Central admin Extend the Web Site with WSS, and create a new Content database. Once that completes go to Manage Content databases, under the site settings. Delete or remove the default content database. There will be no databases assigned to the site, thats fine as we will now add the restored original content database.

4. Add a content database and specify the SQL server and the database to connect to.

5. After successfully adding the database, unless you need to specify Managed paths or Inclusions, your site should come up.

I should mention when creating the Web Site in IIS unless you have a host header, specify any port thats not in use other then 80.

Let me know if it works.

Thank you very much. I had previously noticed that SBS added a host header of companyweb to the old site, but did not know that it was required. I added that to the website, removed the newly created content database and added the old and viola...old site came up with no problem.

Again...thanks a BUNCH!
