And everywhere I surf the Macromedia flash player ad is popping up. I think it might have something to do with it. I also have used up a huge amount of space in C drive,1.14 GB although I'm not running many programs, just AVG and Adaware.

I've deleted all the cookies and temporary internet files, and defragmented the drive.

I would delete some of the programs from the add/remove program properties but am not sure which ones I need. The following is a list of these programs.I'm using Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. Thank you for your help in advance.

I'll go ahead and tell you that Outlook Express may be one of your main problems; this program has a history of causing serious problems, especially due to the fact that it internally opens your email before you do, which has its obvious implications.

Netscape is just another web-surving program like internet explorer; i personally would advise uninstalling Netscape, and finding Mozilla Firefox ( for your explorer... only to keep IE for the updates when they become available for your system.

Quicken is a financial-management program, if you need it, keep it. I'm not entirely sure; but this program may be causing some of your problems due to spyware that tends to hide within its folders and files.

Honestly those are the only two programs i know of; i personally would heavily advise for you to go to microsoft.com and get their Giant Antispyware program, which may be able to fix a lot of the possible causes to your problems. Or, you can try Ad-Aware SE if the microsoft program doesn't support windows 98; found easily on download.com.

Hope this helps,

One other thought is if you are running any of the semi-recent microsoft os's you should have a file called msconfig.exe that will allow you to look at your startup items and "disable" them otherwise i believe winpatrol would be a nice fit, it also will look at what you have running for services and allow you to either kill or disable it, so if you saw something popup, you can inturn disable it and re-boot and see if it happens again

If you're getting pop-ups, I would think that you have a problem with spyware/adware. I see you have adaware, I would make sure that is updated to SE with the latest update and run that and get another one like spybot and run it as well. Spyware/adware would explain both the pop-up and system slow down.

Thanks everyone, the help is much appreciated. I've also been unable to download the Microsoft security updates. They download too slowly, then they don't instal properly. And every time I come off Yahoo, for some reason the computer freezes up. In fact, I just don't go there anymore for that reason.
