Ok I will try to keep this short, but it's a long issue.

My computer will not boot into windows xp. Instead I get a message that say sorry for the inconvience and do I want to go back to the last know good config or safe more or normal. Reboots gets the same thing and I've tried all of them.

Things I've done:

I have changed out all hardwear except the Floppy, Processor, RAM, and Video. I changed the motherboard, hard drive, dvd, sound.

I reloaded Windows after a total format, useing different CDs even.

What's weird:

I can reload Windows compleatly, it will restart and go back as it should then it gets to that last restart to go into Windows and hits a brick wall. I find it odd because all I have left to change in the hardware would be required to do a windows reload and if my ram, processor, or video card was bad it shouldn't get that far.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Sounds like it could be bad RAM. Please list all your system stats, also. What is the exact error message you are getting?

Jim

If you have dual channel memory, try testing with just one module at a time installed. This may confirm if it is memory.

I only have 1 stick of 2700 ddr ram//the message dose say something to the effect of if any new hardware or software has been installed to uninstall it//there was no new software installed to my knowledage, I was running service pack 1

Oh also system stats:

2.4 P4 Processor
80g Hard Drive and 10g drive
I've tried two mother boards Asus and Foxconn
1 ATI AGP video card
(1)512 2700 DDR Ram
2 different cd drives
1 floppy that I now think is bad but I have a replacement if needed

The system ran smooth for a year and a half it started locking up Thursday night and then after I tried to do a Widows repair I get this probelm//I have tried installing Win Xp on that system and on another system then putting the HD back in my system and it's the same story

I agree, sounds like a memory problem to me. I had a similar situation a while back, and it seems like changing out the memory was what fixed it.

after a total format"

Did you do a "Fdisk" to remove a possible partition virus?

How do I do an Fdisk on XP? I used the XP cd to do a NTFS format (not the quick).

in XP it's called 'Fixmbr', this will clear your MasterBootRecord a possible hiding spot for a Virus...

and yes, it does sound a lot like MEM prob... might wanna try a new stick of Ram...

Ben

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...
