We have a 2 node cluster that we want to uncluster. I've read about evicting nodes and I understand how to completely remove clustering from both nodes. What I need to know is, when clustering is removed and shut off, will I still have local access on the "owning" server to the resources?

We have only have one resource, which is a drive that holds files. When clustering is shut off I need one of the servers to still have access to these files. I want to be sure that by removing clustering it does not also destroy the resource. So, right now node 1 has a drive L: which is all the files. When clustering is removed, will node 1 (now an independent server) still have a drive L: with all of the files? Thank you.

hi,
the shared disk that contains the L: partition,
which kind is: FC, SCSI ?

If you want be sure, try this procedure:

1) Evict Node2 from cluster
2) Shutdown Node2
3) Shutdown Node1 (it has still cluster service, but off)
4) Power on Node2: I believe you see L partition without problem.

If this procedure fails (Node2 does not see disk),
you simply have returned in the middle of Cluster Procedure Setup; join Node2 again as done at startup.

If you have unistalled cluster from one node,
DONT poweron BOTH Servers simultaneously!

If Success, power off all, disconnect node1 from disk
uninstall MSCS (reinatsll OS if it makes stories),
and be carefull to DON'T connect more this server to disk.

bye

Thanks for your tip. The disk is SCSI, direct attached to both servers. I had planned on detaching the disk from node 2 after unclustering them.

xmsre,

If I want node 1 to be left with the resource when done, does it matter what order I remove the nodes in? I was planning on moving the resource to node 1, then removing node 2 and finally node 1. Your post says remove node 1 and then node 2. I just want to be sure whether the order of removal is important or not.

Thanks!
