Can someone confirm the difference between a cold start and a warm start on a CS1000M?
Thanks.

A cold start usually means starting up from no power. ie power removed or turned off prior to start. A warm start is usually just a reboot with power never being removed. ie an INI

So if a patch has the special instructions of cold start after install, do I just flip the circuit breakers on the pbx?

I would do a backup prior to removing power.

same as any server... warm is control alt del on the os, cold is power down at the imput.. several other things that need to be addressed..

if i don't edd. a cold reset does not erase my changes.. it does not delete my connect table.. calls in progress stay up. new calls don't happen, calls on hold drop.. my dch's rls as well as links to cp mermail symposium..

i have never found a problem with a nortel that had to have a cold boot.. and i don't remember any that an ini was the only way to clear.. i have known techs that ini'ed ever problem.. and it can clear problems.. but, i perfer finding problems and making sure they don't come back..

I havent seen a patch that required a cold start, but a few of them require the INI.

MPLR22310 IPCR : INI after BERR705 in Task "tvtServerRx" during Traffic. This patch uses Patch01 and Patch02 as patch globals *** NOTE: SPECIAL HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS. SEE NOTES SECTION FOR DETAILS ** SPECIAL HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS: ---------------------------------------------- SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE COLD STARTED AFTER INSTALLING THE PATCH. Steps to be followed:- 1. Load the patch using one of the following commands: Either command below is effective. A. pdt> pload Patch filename? p22310_2.ssc Retain patch (y/n)? [y] Days patch vulnerable to sysload? [3] 0 In-service initialize threshold? [5] 100 In-service days to monitor inits? [7] 0 Loading patch from "c:/u/patch/p22310_2.ssc" Patch handle is: 101 OR B. pdt> pload -s 0 p22310_2.cpt This command set the thresholds to 0,0,0 just as ffective as the above command. 2. Activate the patch. pdt> pins 3. Perform Cold Start. Note: Take database back up before performing the cold start.

I would do a parallel reload. Less chance of trouble.

post patch.. do not reload.. that requires adding the patch again, which does require a reload

ld 43
edd.

press both ini switches at the same time.. usually less then 2 minutes you'll get dt.. calls in progress will stay up.. internal and external... calls on hold, being transfered, park etc drop..

the rule is simple, any call requesting a chg in the connect table drops...
