A cold start usually means starting up from no power. ie power removed or turned off prior to start. A warm start is usually just a reboot with power never being removed. ie an INI
same as any server... warm is control alt del on the os, cold is power down at the imput.. several other things that need to be addressed..
if i don't edd. a cold reset does not erase my changes.. it does not delete my connect table.. calls in progress stay up. new calls don't happen, calls on hold drop.. my dch's rls as well as links to cp mermail symposium..
i have never found a problem with a nortel that had to have a cold boot.. and i don't remember any that an ini was the only way to clear.. i have known techs that ini'ed ever problem.. and it can clear problems.. but, i perfer finding problems and making sure they don't come back..

Activate the patch. pdt> pins 3. Perform Cold Start. Note: Take database back up before performing the cold start.
post patch.. do not reload.. that requires adding the patch again, which does require a reload

press both ini switches at the same time.. usually less then 2 minutes you'll get dt.. calls in progress will stay up.. internal and external... calls on hold, being transfered, park etc drop..
the rule is simple, any call requesting a chg in the connect table drops...
