Communication Manager Software Load R016x.00.1.510.1

CM duplex at 6.0.1 SP7 (00.1.510.1-19528) running on HP DL 360 G7
System Platform R6.0.3.6.3 (vsp-patch-6.0.3.6.3)

ESS simplex at 6.0.1 SP7 (00.1.510.1-19528) running on Avaya S8510
System Platform R6.0.3.0.3
Utility Server R6.1.0.0.8 (SP 6.1.0.1.8, SP 6.1.0.10.8)

I am preparing to install the following:
System Platform: vsp-patch-6.0.3.10.3
CM Service Pack: CM6.0.1 SP11.01 (00.1.510.1-21061)
CM Security SP: PLAT-rhel5.3-1012.tar.gz

I understand each of these is service affecting, requiring reboots. I am looking for some direction in regards to the order of install, the time each might take to install, etc.

After much research, I've determined the System Platform patch should be installed first, but otherwise I haven't found anything conclusive.

Should I install the system platform patch on each server first, or install all patches on one server before going to the next? Should I begin with the ESS, then the inactive CM, followed by the active CM?

While installing the patches on the ESS, is it safe to assume the duplex will be unaffected? While installing on the inactive CM, will the active be affected? Or, do I need to perform all installations during off time.

Without further direction, my plan at this time is to install the System Platform patch on the ESS, then the inactive, then, after an interchange, on the active. Then follow with the CM Service Pack on each in the same order, followed by the CM Security Pack on each in the same order.

I would surely appreciate some advice.

System Platform always goes first, then CM and then security. I would concentrate on one server at a time and complete.. don't do system platform on 3 different servers and then go back and start the CM's. Do the ESS first and you should be able to do this w/o affecting anything. Then you will busyout your standby CM... once that is completed you'll interchange and then work on the last one, which would be standby in that case. I'd do these off hours for sure and plan for time. They are not 5 minute patches. Of course make sure you have your backups and as a real extra precaution you should probably have the install disks, just in case. You can download everything you need from the avaya site. a nice to have would also be your license files, but I know those aren't so easy to come by.
