Hi all,

I get alot of answers foraging though these forums, but couldn't find anything directly relating to my current problem.

I have an old server SAV 8.0 CE server (hardware way old) managing about 2000 clients in groups. I wanted to move the clients to a new server running SAV 8.1 CE, but due to new managment couldn't name it the same as the old server so that was right out.

I followed Norton's tech page on migrating clients from one 8.X CE server to another:

Both server's are part of the same SAV domain, so only a few registry keys needed to be changed. As the clients checked in with the old server they were attached to the new server just as expected. However, now that they're over on the new server, no clients are getting virus updates.

I can communicate fine with any client I pick via the console, and I'm not getting errors in my event viewer, what could I be doing wrong? All settings for the new server are set like the old, and all group settings check out to get virus defs from the parent server.

I saw a few people mention re-distributing the GRC.dat, and or reloading the clients, but that's not an option... I have over 2000 clients and that would take weeks.

Note: Old server Win2k, running SAV CE 8.0
New server Win2003, running SAV CE 8.1 (primary)
Clients run a mix of SAV CE 7.02 thru 8.1

I think I found my answer. Thought I'd post it incase anyone else had the same problem.

I've been using the CEGETTER.BAT routine to FTP the daily def updates for quite awhile. It seems that 8.1 will not update the clients with the old CEGETTER. A newer version is available that will download a diffrent file with the extention *.xdb.

Here are some links from Symantec's tech site:

Symantec Antivirus Corporate Update

Copy cescript.txt and cegetter.bat to c:\ drive of Norton server.

From start ? settings ? control panel ? scheduled task
Make 2 or 3 schedules to run cegetter.bat at different day time for example one to run at 6:00 am and one at 6pm. I do three.

File cescript.txt:

open ftp.symantec.com
anonymous
nobody@lowpricebazar.com
cd public/english_us_canada/antivirus_definitions/norton_antivirus/static
lcd C:bin
hash
prompt
get navup8.exe
quit

File cegetter.bat

ftp -s:cescript.txt
call "c:\navup8.exe"
move /y %systemdrive%\*.xdb "C:\Program Files\SAV"
del /q c:\navup8.exe
