CLAN locking up

We have many connections with ASA connected to the switch. One is constantly staying connected to run reports. Over the last couple of weeks our CLAN card has locked up twice. I can't connect to it or even ping it. The only way we are resetting it is to call Avaya and they reset the card. Any ideas on why this is happening.

G3xV12, Software Version: R012x.02.0.111.4

Thanks!

Which version of Clan? TN799, TN799B, TN799C or TN799DP?

If it is a DP I would start by making sure you are running the latest firmware. FW15 is the latest.

Next I would make sure that your port speeds match. If the clan is set to 100 full then the lan switch must be forced to 100 full. Any mismatch what so ever can cause problems.

Thanks phoneguy55, I will check on all of your questions and ideas and post back

TN799DP
We are at firmware 14

the clan is set to 100 full along with the network switch.
Is there such a thing as a buffer that gets too big and resetting the CLAN is what clears it out and allows connections again?

Since you are set at 100MB, do you have the special cat-5 backplane connector? It goes between the carrier slot and the amphenol plug. If you're just using that board for admin, you may want to change it and the switch to 10MB to see if your issue go away.

Not sure about the cat-5 backplane connector, (i am new to this)

I will try to set to 10mb and see what happens:

I have looked at the errors log and there is an error count of 120 for Error Type 3329. Not sure thats part of the issue or not. The search continues.

thank you!

I have mine set to Auto, but not the traffic you have. Rarely have problems, but have you popped the card out and reseated it? or is this an Avaya reset only??

This is an Avaya reset only, maybe we should try a reseat as well.

FW14 should be good.

The 100 Meg connector is black. It has an RJ45 and a DB9 connnection on it. The 10 meg connector is gray and only has an RJ45 on it.

Also you need to be sure if you are using 100 Meg that the wiring harness from the anphanol connector to the card is Cat 5 rated. This applies to G3si and G3R.

I wasn't referring to the connector snapped on the back of the carrier (good point though). I was referring to the 6" long backplane connector cable connecting the 50 pin amp connector to the carrier's circuit board. Older carriers (3+ years) have thin white 26AWG cat-1 looking wire connecting each slot of the backplane to each amp connector at the rear of the carrier. To run at 100MB, you need the updated carrier or the updated cat-5 backplane connector on the carrier slot you wish to use the 100MB connection on(looks like a 6" piece of cat-5 25 pair cable with no outer jacket).

JLO4,

You maybe right on buffer size, look a little more in that direction, maybe you will get some light!! I have heard of it!! But have not experienced so far!!!

You can check fairly easily to see if your speed is mismatched or the connectors are not sufficient by looking at the crc errors (if any) on the specific clan.

This can be caused by a number of items but if you are using the wrong connector/backplane interface or a speed/duplex issue exists you will see numerous crc errors when listing measurements on the board.

Thank You, after talking with Avaya, we are going to ugrade to FW 16 and that should fix our issue.
Thank you all for the ideas and helping us out.
