Hello everyone.

Im having an issue here. I have connected 3 routers together for some basic router simulations to work on my CCENT cert.

I have 3 2505's all running the same ver of IOS (c2500-is-l.123-12) Router 1 is connected on both s1 & s2 interfaces to the s0 of the other 2 2505's. I have connectivity from router 1 to router 2&3 and from router 2 to router 1. I also get connectivity from router 3 to router 1 but I cannot ping or telnet to router 2. The protocol on s1 of router 1 keeps dropping. I have tried so many things.I have toggled shutting the port on and off and the protocol comes up for a few seconds but then goes away again... Im lost.

Any suggestions.

Clock rate is 1000000

I will post the configs shortly as I am in the process of redoing the configs

But the cable is essentialy the same on both sides correct? DB60 to DB60?

Is there a correct sequence when booting that would cause my DCE side to think that it is not a DCE/side any more?

So since I did everything over, I have connectivity for everything again.

WEIRD!!!!!

JonathanBKNY,

You said - "But the cable is essentialy the same on both sides correct? DB60 to DB60?" No one side should be marked "DCE" and gets the clockrate and the other end should be marked "DTE". It is normally "molded" into the thick end piece!

Look at the cables and look for the marking - I have some that it is "molded" into the connector and others that it is on tape close to the end!

Hope that helps!

JonathanBKNY,

You can also run the command "show controller serial x" - it will tell you if it is the "DCE" connected or "DTE" connected.

Here is a good picture of a DCE to DTE (DB60) cable where you can see the "DCE" and "DTE" molded into the end -

You will need that with no split horizon. Also, I see no clock rate in any serial interfaces...

Burt,

He has them on Indianapolis -

interface Serial0
description Serial WAN Connection to Seattle
ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0
ip rip triggered
no ip split-horizon
clockrate 1000000

interface Serial1
description Serial WAN Connection to New_England
ip address 192.168.20.1 255.255.255.0
no ip split-horizon
clockrate 1000000

Ok well that all makes alot of sense. The guy I purchased the kit from included the two cables. And they are Cisco branded cables and nope they are not marked anywhere. I went over them with a fine toothed comb and a magnifying glass... Ok well, yet again I feel like a dope!!!!

I marked the cables myself and everything is fine now..

Thansk again Burt and CiscoGuy33

Just remember about what "no ip split-horizon" does. Sorry I missed the clock rate...those serial interfaces will go faster than 1MB---they go 1.536MB. I always set mine to 4000000.
