Here is a quick and easy way to change a CISCO 1131 Wireless Access Point from Lightweight(out of the box) to Standard.

I did not see an WAP forum so I am posting this here.

1 Changing Cisco 1131 Access points from Lightweight to Standard
2
3 Download the latest Cisco IOS or the version you want to use
4 Download install Solar Winds TFTP Server(Free)
5
6 Change your IP to 10.0.0.x x= anything between 2 and 5
7 Plug a straigt through cable from the wap to your machine
8 place the IOS image in your default TFTP folder
9
10 Your AP should be unplugged at this point
11 press and hold the mode button(you might need a pen/pensil)
12 plug in your WAP and continue holding the mode button until the LED turns red
13 Once the LED turns red let go of the button and it should automatically start
downloading the firmware
14 If you are connected through a console cable you will see it extracting the files
15
16 Once it is finished you are ready to configure it.

I am having issues trying to put 1131s into autonomous mode. I downloaded 12.4.3g-JA IOS from Cisco. I unzipped that to a folder and pointed my TFTP server to it. It is not able to load the image file and comes up with ERROR. Is there something I must be missing from your post? Which part of the IOS is actually my image file and am I supposed to rename it?

You shouldn't be unzipping the file, leave it as .tar, when and if your using your browser to access this file, just pin point them to where the file is.

I believe the LWAP don't have a Console port, so it's through the browser. Again, you should leave the file as .tar, then browser the file, then load it. It should work.

Your browser normally tells you whether it's saying to find a .tar or .bin....try the .tar

Peace

Hey litlbuddy,

There are a few lines missing,

2, 5, 9 and 15....but the way you got it laid out seems to be correct.

But, what happens if the IOS is corrupted? Since this has no console, how do you get into this thing to load the appropriate code?

Peace

By the way, I use IPSU to access the AP, and give it an IP address in my network, since we do the testing here....

The 1131 does have a console port. I'm unable to browse to it even after I give it an ip address through the console port. The 1131s are my only cisco product being used while trying to set up a WLAN Nortel phone system.

Can you access to it from the emulation? Should have 9600 8 N 1 setup from the emulation, then make sure the 1131 is reset. Power off, put a pin or pen in the RESET button press and hold, then turn power on. Look on the on screen, when it will let you know the system is being reset to factory defaults to 10.0.0.1. Make sure the Ethernet is in the Ethernet port straight cable from a switch. If you don't have the Ethernet in there, it will put you in AP: like Rommon.

See if that works...

I can access it this way but even with factory default ip address I still can't browse to it. I can ping it though.

Ok, then you need to setup your pc static ip address in compliant to the AP. like, 10.0.0.1 setup your TCP/IP to 10.0.0.2 255.0.0.0.

If that don't work, use the IPSU from Cisco, enter the MAC Address, then force IP Address withing your normal Network address.

Try that..

Sorry about the missing lines. I used notepad++ to type it so it numbered all of them.

No biggie, I knew there weren't much more because I work on 1100, 1200, 1300, and 1400 WAP. Some LAP as well. I was just letting ya know.

Great post though and thanks for shareing.

Peace

I found out I needed to go to the control panel of my pc, into tools and check show hidden files. After I did that then it finally started loading according to these instructions.
