I have a customer that all of the sudden is getting a "no carrier" error in EDC when trying to settle the batch. They are using EDC v6.2.24 (w/CED). It's almost seems like the system is trying to use the external modem (which isn't hooked up) instead of the usual DSL (TCP/IP). The DSL is working fine. I am able to remotely connect and browse the web from the server. I am quite sure nobody went into EDC and changed settings. I did read that it could by a TIME setting. I did change the TIME ZONE to the correct one - unfortunately I can't remember what it was set at prior. I hope I am making sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried to reboot the server, this usually will re-start the edc services.

Hi coorsman. Thanx for the response. I did reboot the server once hoping it would correct the problem, unfortunately it didn't. Perhaps I should stop and restart the service and see if that does anything. Thanx again!

Would that setting be in EDC+CONFIGURE+PROCESSORS+CED? Thank you!!

yes no carrier is no dial tone, but he said he has never had a modem install and is using internet to processor his credit cards. with that being said if its rolling over to dial up, someone might have unchecked processing thru the internet, or he is internet is loosing packets and is confusing edc.

I'm really just curious... there's alot of posts like these:
"I have a customer with aloha...."

Obviously, the person posting is not even a reseller, but how do these people get hired to support a computer system they know nothing about? Doesn't the end customer ever get suspicious?

Maybe I should create a site of aloha freelance support and let anyone post their credentials that wants to farm off their time. Just a thought. Seems like a lot of aloha users with no support contract.

I was thinking about deleting the modem setup since they aren't using one or even have one hooked up.

An app that uses Jet/DB2, along with MS file in printer sharing in it's most basic design, RFS implemented to overcome 10 connection limits of using a Windows client OS as a server, a few more com ports for peripherals, to any MCP or above, it really isn't brain surgery. The customer most probably realizes there is a better class of service out there but unfamiliar with POS, and a lot of skilled corporate IT individuals set free by economic problems and corporations going out of business, these folks are accustomed to a server OS, Cisco infrastructure, enterprise class service, in quite a bit more complex environments. End result? I see quite a bit less fleecing of the average hospitality/restaurant biz. I see Micros making a play by going with cloud computing attempting to lock their following into a corner, but this will likely end in a unhappy customer when their DSL flaps and the cannot update transaction logs locally, furthermore clouds have already become known as an unsafe environment to store critical data, they should have stuck with SCO/Unix and implemented/updated their encryption modules to comply with PCI compliance rather that move to an open architecture/closed source OS. As for the rest, the old school days of locking customers into a nitch market corner are pretty much over.
