I have upgraded our in house system to 4.1.

SIP now doesn't work. One way transission on both my providers!! Will look at this later.

More importantly, our vm if working properly but the VM Client will not show the database!! All my custom call flows do what they should but the CLient shows a default blank databse. my .mdb backup has disapeared also so can't even put it back in not sure if it didn't save properly when I exported the config.

Any ideas how to get this back. It must be there as it works but can't see it!!!

I just can't get my head round the fact that the VM Pro Service can read the db but not the client."

Jamie - think of it like a piece of software. Someone writes the code, then it is compiled into an executable. You can then run the executable without needing the original source code. Substitute source code with database and executable with root.vmp and you have how VMP works. The problem of course (for both examples), is that you can't make any changes without the source/database.

I have seen this before, if you don't have an export then you will have to re-write the database. It might be possible to use Excel and Access to re-format the root.vmp file into the format the VMP client can read (convert to spreadsheet first then import to Access), but don't expect any help from Avaya.

VMData.MDB is a file that the VMPro clinet uses to display the call flow.
Root.vmp is the file that the VMpro Service uses as the actie programm for the VM

Selecting save & make live in VM pro client compiles the VMdata.mdb & creates root.vmp

if you have lost VMdata.mdb then the only option is to reprogram it, reading root.vmp will assit in this process.

This setup dates back to Network alchemy whre the VMpro did not have a friendly GUI for programming but eddited root.vmp directly
VMPro client purely a gui front end to make this process much easier.

On the 3.2 machine that I was talking about before, I logged in last night and imported the backup callflow that I had and could see the database again. Honestly though I didn't save it because I'm not sure of the changes between the backup and now.

Jamie, did you try to import to backup and save it?

tried impoting a backup from the backup directory but no good. didn't try saving. don' want to lose what I have!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even Avaya couldn't resolve this issue for me. I had to rebuild the whole MDB file from scratch. As stated by latitude12 the Mail client will only look at MDB files, and you have none with the data the root file is using to play greetings, and match digits.

The MDB file is not needed on a day to day operation of your VM. You make the changes to the MDB file, and that is written to the root file when you press save and make live. The voice mail then waits for all VM ports to be closed, and overwrites the root file with the new changes.

you should also check your services to see how your inter-acting with it locally or with a specific account. also i would make sure you have the voice mail DB service running.

I think the answer is:

I am screwed!!!

Never mind. Looks like I am spending the day recreating my V/M!!!!!

Strange

I have no problems (yet) with 4.1
I can't remeber but did you try a complete reinstall and then importing the backup ?

I have tried that also.

I am now resigned to a rewrite based on the info in the root.vmp file.

That should be fun!!!!!!!

Exactly what I did ron. looks like my boss is on 24 hr call next weeks instead of me as his number is stored in my place from over christmas and I can't change it.

What a shame.

Every cloud has a silver lining!!!!!

Just curious, when you made the backup, where do you think you put it? Second, You have never made a backup ever in all the other upgrades you have had to do? You don't have any around? I find that hard to believe!

My USB hard drive has a CFG, and MDB of every system I work on as soon as I pull up the clients I export/save. 120G $60 american, well worth the investment.

Another great thing is when I am on the phone with the customer supporting them pulled over on the side of the road. They think I have their system memorized because I have their MDB open on my lappy in VMPRO, and their CFG open in Manager.

Another thing they suprisingly do not mind in the rare situation where they lose their VMPRO machine, or fry their IPO, and did not do their back ups, and move them to a redundant location is the $187.50/hr I charge them to drive there, restore their MDB, or CFG, and continue sharging them until I get back to where I was when they called. For some reason at that point they are more concerned with getting their system back up, and realize my back up was something they did not pay me to do in the first place, and are happy to pay for a restore VS a reprogram from scratch.

It really does not take that long to do a back up.

I can't find any backups on any of our machines. searched each one for *.mdb.

The VM was moved about 6 months ago so I am suprised there isn't one about somewhere.

Is there a VM client on any other machine on the network for the system?
