I tried to print a pdf in internet explorer 9 on windows 7 64-bit machine and I immediately get an error that a program has cause internet explorer to stop working. The webpage then crashes and recovers. I'm able to print in other web browsers so it's not the printer. I attempted to do a normal print in internet explorer and get the same error.

Fixes tried
1. disable add-ons
2. turn the security functions off
3. selected the option for "use software rendering instead of GPU rendering"
4. upgraded to internet explorer 10 which caused the browser to not work at all and use fix#3 just to use it
5. uninstalled internet explorer which brings it back to IE 8

There were other fixes I tried but I can't remember them all. Outside of just rebuilding the computer, is there a way to fix internet explorer?

Often, when printing a PDF file from a browser, one needs to choose the print function of the PDF viewer plugin, not the print function of the overall browser. Are you saying that neither print function works?

For IE that's correct. I go to file and print in the web browser and I get the error. However I'm able to print normally and to pdf in other web browsers so the problem must be in IE.

I would use another web browser but the software that I work with only uses internet explorer to finish certain tasks.

What if you test with another Windows user rather than the current user?

It hasn't affected all the users but it has happened to three users so far in which I was forced to rebuild their computers so they can use them. I want to find a solution to this issue so I can solve it if the issue happens again and stop it from happening in the first place.

In short, I need to know what causes this issue to happen (ex. update, 3rd party software, etc.) There must be something that connects these three users together but not others.

In 64-bit machines the Default IE 8 or 9 should be the 32-bit version. That is the version that runs by default on 64-bit machines. Which version are those users using?

Im not sure what they were using. How can you tell if you are using the 32 bit or 64 bit version of IE?

Where does the IE Shortcut point to? If it is Program Files(x86) then that is 32-bit, if it is just Program Files, that is 64-bit.

You said you can't print .pdf files from IE9. Can you print other files or web pages from IE9 ?
