Trying to load a config from an IP406 v3.1 and all I get back is "xxxxx.cfg not loaded OK" in the status bar. Any way to get around this?

Thanks,

Geoff

Good call :)

Sometimes it is easier to see it for a tech when he/she is on site

There are more ways to Rome

sebenka2... close, but no cigar. :) Still impressive.

Default the Security settings only through the DTE port then change it back to your preferred password

sebenka1 - A cigar for you!

Now if you could just figure out why I can't get the config back I'd reward you with a whole box of cigars (just not Cubans - we still have that embargo thing going some 30 years later).

(amriddle01 - it's not a password issue, but if it was I'd take your suggestion - although I'm not sure it would work on 3.1)

check you have nothing blocking TFTP trafic on your PC
this can be caused by antivirus software & some VPN clients (Smantec VPN client is known to be a cause of problems)

Are you using Vista ?
Can you use phone manager on that pc ?
Phone manager also works with tftp
So if that does not work then your problem is tftp
Or is there another tftp server on the pc ?

The Avaya tech isn't sure if something is buggered on the management machine or not, so we'll see if the config will come over from another PC. Installing Manager there now (as soon as it finishes downloading...)

You can try this in a dos box:
tftp -i <ip address IP Office> get "config/'xtv~zo>" test.cfg
Or try my backup tool i once made:
Change the .piz to .zip.

If you get the config named test.cfg in the directory of the dos box and you can open that config offline then it is a Manager problem.
I have seen it before and re-installing Manager may solve the problem.

Wow, this is going to be one of *those* problems... No luck running Manager on a new machine, ditto for trying a manual tftp grab.

Seems the control unit is simply not responding to tftp requests - or not responding to the right place. I may throw the control unit and a single PC on a hub and sniff the traffic to see what's really going on. In the mean time, users are screaming for config changes. Just another fun week in IT.

Not looking good...

I connected a PC directly to the control unit with a crossover cable and ran NetMon at the same time I was attempting to retrieve the config. I see lots of data coming back from the switch, but I still get the "not loaded OK" error. Rebooted everything one more time and still no go.

Earlier today I did the Webex thing with one of their remote support guys, and after him trying for 20 minutes to repeatedly load the config with the same error every time, his response was something along the lines of "that's strange".

Should be interesting to see what the Avaya tech does tomorrow morning when he arrives on site. Not sure what else he can do that I haven't tried already, but maybe he'll have a trick or two up his sleeve. My gut tells me we're going to have to blow away the config and start over.

My latest official backup (using the backup function in Manager when it was working) is from 6/29, so hopefully it won't be too, too painful if we end up there. But it's always interesting to try to remember all the changes you've made in the last month. ;)

If you can open the "yoursystemname.cfg" in your Manager directory offline then DTE port maintenance to resend the config is all that's needed with this box.

$20 says that a config was sent with an open dialog box minimized in the background-a flaw with 3.1 and lower Manager software.

photon33, I sure hope my Avaya tech knows how to do the DTE reload, because I can successfully open the last config from Friday in offline mode and it looks OK.

And as for the cause of the problem, wouldn't surprise me one bit if that's what happened.

Thanks for the help!

Geoff

Open that config offline
Then send the the config
You only loose the chanegs you did the last time

I would DTE it completely, then send the last known good congig, only takes 5-10 mins tops.

tlpeter! You are the man!

Opened the config and sent it to the unit, and now I can receive it back once again. Time to wrack the brain for whatever changes were being made last Friday, but at least I'm back in. Sweet!!

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful suggestions. Great forum!
