Can't group dates in report

OK, I have a query that reports the following fields>
Date, Procedure Number, Procedure name, Procedure count days, procedure count nights.

When I try to create a report with this query, I can group the data by month, which is what I want, yet the individual dates still print, and I can't seem to get rid of them.

When I click on something other than date, for instance, proceedure name, in the report generator, the report comes sorted by proceedure name, and proceedure name is not in the list of reported fields. However when I click date, the date field remains in the reported data.

What I have:

For July 2006
7/1/2006 100 Procedure name 2 1
7/2/2006 100 Procedure name 1 2
7/2/2006 102 Procedure name 2 2

What I want:
For July 2006
100 procedure name 3 3
102 procedure name 2 2

I hope this is clear and someone can help me.

In fact you want to group by month then by procedure number.

I've done that. The problem, the date field is still in the reporting line, so I get procedures with unique dates. I can't seem to be able to fix this.

Remove the date TextBox from the Detail section.
