I just picked up some used phones and their VLAN is set to 401. We use VLAN 0, the phones will not pull a dhcp address because of this and i am unable to program them because the "Press * to program" option doesnt come up. I have tried pressing Mute R E S E T # but it beeps at every key press and wont go into the programming screens. Is there a way to change the VLAN or reset these to factory settings?

thats why you do not buy stuff off of ebay. send them back to who you got them from.

I didnt buy them off of ebay, i bought them from Atlantel.

Sorry for the delay, the phones are 4610s.

try pressing HOLD 73738 instead of mute, both methods should work though

if you plug a phone in what do you get on the screen as it tries to boot up?

Hold 73738 doesnt work either.

Here is what happens when the phone is connected:

Voicemail Indicator Illuminates then goes off,
Phone Displays:

Initializing

Then:
loading x sec
a10d01b2_7.bin, 2089kb

Then
starting

Then
100mbps Ethernet

Then
DHCP:xxx sec
VLAN ID=401

The DHCP timer just counts forever.

There's probably nothing wrong with the phones. You need to set up a layer 3 switch with VLAN 401. Boot the phone. Modify the 46xxsettings.txt file to include a non-zero value for VLAN test. If set to zero the phone will not try any other VLAN. Set the PROCPSWD to "" in the 46xxsettings.txt file or whatever you want for a password on the phone. Also upgrade the software.

WGross, where are you located? I have Layer 3 switches setup in the lab, and I could probably get your phones cleared out... I am in Boston, MA

Hey Mitch, thanks for the gracious offer but were 3,000 miles away, I'm in Bakersfield, CA. LOL. I have Layer 3 switches i just didnt want to go through the trouble of creating another VLAN, I was hoping there was a keypress i could do while the phone booted that would force a reset but i guess there isn't. Thanks again for offering up your lab.
