I'm currently working with a Merlin Magix system, and I seem to run into a problem when I try to add extensions as the observer on a service observation group. When I try to add the extension, the value I typed in is replaced by the value that was there before. I can delete extensions just fine, and I can add ones that have been deleted, I just can't add certain ones. I've seen mention of a "Class of Restrictions" but I can't seem to find how to program this for individual extensions...

One observer per group is allowed so if you are trying to allow multiple observers, that is why it is rejecting it.

The Magix Feature Reference Guide document should cover this feature and lists all limitations and interactions. It is downloadable for free: support.avaya.com.

Telecomboy: I'm just trying to change the observer for a service observation group.

SYQUEST: Thank you for the information. Unfortunately the procedure described in that manual is the very one that I am doing.

merlinman: Are you talking about an observer for a calling group? I'm just trying to change a group and use manually entered lines as the extensions being observed.

Specifically, the procedure I'm using is: Extensions?More?More?ServiceObs?Observer?Dial group no. (1–32)?Enter?Dial ext. no. of Service Observer?Enter or Delete? Back?Back
(copied straight from the manual SYQUEST kindly referred to)

Even if I delete the service observer extension, go back to the main menu, and go back in, I still cannot change the observer. Also, when I'm entering the number of the Servce Observation group that I am trying to change, it only tells me that I can choose from groups (1-16), not (1-32). I don't know if this is an error in the manual or something else.

Well, I have no clue as to what you are trying to tell us with:

...and use manually entered lines as the extensions...

(That is, you can only OBSERVE extensions, not lines.)

But I do know that there are ONLY 16 Service Observing Groups.

As far as trying to "Change the Observer", THAT CAN'T BE DONE!

You must make a NEW GROUP for the NEW OBSERVER or tear down the "OLD" Group and start over.

When Printed, it looks like this:

SERVICE OBSERVING INFORMATION

Group # : 1
Service Observer: 10
Give Warning Tone: No
Members: 11 44 12 13 14 15 16 17 26
30 31 34 7137 7140 7141
Group # : 2
Service Observer: 11
Give Warning Tone: Yes
Members:

I hope this helps.

Sorry, I used "line" and "extension" interchangeably. I see what you mean now about tearing down the whole group and starting over, it's just that when I type in the extension I want to use as the observer, sometimes it rejects me with a beep. I have been able to re-do a group with some extensions as the observer, but other extensions seem to not be allowed to be set as the observer.

After I printed out all the groups, I realized that I had been trying in some cases to set an observed member of a group to be the observer of that group. When adding members to a group I thought that any time I wanted to add or remove an extension that I would have to re-enter the whole list rather than type in their number and press "Enter" or "Delete" to add or remove them respectively. I didn't need to totally delete the group, I just needed to make sure the observer extension wasn't among those being monitored in the group.
