Hi,

I recently got 2 x 2nd hand Option 11C's - but I cannot login as described in the manual.

I have connected the PC directly to the SDI port on the back panel of the PBX with a regular null-modem cable, and use HyperTerminal 6.3

As I understand the manuals, I simply hit enter, type LOGI and it should ask PASS, which should still be the fault 0000. Unfortunately there is no reaction to any keystroke.

Have tried, Enter, "LOGI", Enter, "0000", Enter - no reaction...
Have tried, Enter, "LOGI ADMIN1", Enter, "0000", Enter - no reaction...

I want to login and verify that I have the correct passwords 1st and 2nd level, + Meridian Mail admin while I'm still in contact with the pervious owner...

I think the problem may be an incorrect cable. It's a regular null-modem cable that I normally use with our current Ascom Ascotel PBX.

I also have the Nortel NTBK48AA and A0378652 modem adapter, but that will need a 25 pin serial port, and we don't have any PC's that old, and those 25 pin serial cards are not available in Denmark any longer.
I am be able to get a 25 to 9 pin adapter as a special order item, but it will take a long time to get it delivered.
Is there any difference using this Nortel cable+adapter and a regular 9 pin to 9 pin null-modem cable?

Below is how the system starts up. I get the AUD000 after 10 min. - everything tested and OK - but I cannot type anything :(

Appreciate any input :)

What are your Hyperterminal settings?

Hi dnc16,

HyperTerminal settings are:

19800 (same as dipswitch on CPU card)
8
None
1
None

Emulation: Autodetect

Hi jaiello2000,

Thank you for the input. Are you using a standard null-modem cable or the special Nortel NTBK48AA and A0378652 modem adapter?

Brgds
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I think, it is an older Release on your Otion 11, it is not an 11C, you have to type it in uppercase "LOGI"
Regards
Fritz

Hi fritzthecat,

I do beleive that is is an Optil 11C, but it's in release 21.19

I have tryied every combination og LOGI, lower case, upper case with shift and caps lock - but i never get the > prompt when hitting enter.
I thing I will have to use the Nortel cabel - I have orders some adapters (25 to 25 pin female/female, and a regular 9 pin to 25 pin serial port adapter female/male) to get it to fit a 9 pin serial port.

I hope that will work.

Brgds
Thomas

Hello Thomas,
Rel. 21.19 is an OPT11E not a C, so you ned to use uppercase,
but probably, it schould work with a 9 pin to 25 and a Nullmodem eleminator betwean,
If you hit the return key, is there something happening on your screen?
Regards
Fritz

I have a standard NTBK48AA cable on the OPtion 11 and a standard 25 - 9 pin null modem cable.

I have also used a 25/25 straight through to a 25/25 nul modem and a 25 -9 pin adapter. Of course that put my laptop three feet from the wall :)

I use uppper or lower case. I think my release is 25.43.

Make make sure that you are using port 0 on the ntbk48 cable. I think it's the only port set up by default to talk to the switch. Than you can manualy assign the other ports as needed.

If I remember right NORTEL does not support 19.2 k. I know there is a setting on the CPU but the do not support 19.2. Does not matter what emulation you are using. Use Port 0 on the 3 finger cable and you must us a null modem adapter to tie it to a terminal or computer direct. Otherwise if tied to a modem NO null modem cable required.

Thank you for all the feedback. I managed to communicate with the system through HyperTerminal and the NTBK48AA cable after receiving 2 additional adapters today :)

I have been working on this all day. Perhaps someone can lend me a little more advice. I have every cable and adapter that one could want in front of me and I still can't get this thing to work. I am coming off of the port 0 from the NTBK48AA on my Opt11. I have tried just about every config imaginable, but the best I can get is just a garbled mess when I use a 25/25 null modem cable, to a 25/9 adapter into the com port. My settings are 9600 8N1.

To test things, I have been restarting the opt 11 for each cable configuration I try. I SHOULD show the startup stuff, but just shows gobbely-gook.
Any ideas?

Start at slower speeds. Prior to system boot set the dip switch to 1200 and your computer to 1200 8,N,1. I have run into an occassional system that requies 7,M,1 but it is rare. I am not sure why and have never seen this documented in the NTP's. Once booted, just hit your enter key and see if you get a legitimate response like OVL0111 or a MID code.

If you have a protocol analyzer, or datascope, connect it in the middle and see if it can figure out what is happening.

If you do not have a protocol analyzer, then try a break out box to see if you are connecting to the right places.
